  • Safaricom leads NSE stocks as market capitalization tops $8.35 billion in H1 2025.
  • Equity Group, KCB, and EABL maintain dominance, driving Kenya’s capital markets forward.
  • NSE market cap climbs to $23.5 billion, signaling rising investor confidence and opportunities.

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), founded in 1954, is East Africa’s leading bourse and a key hub for capital formation.

Based in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, the exchange provides world-class trading facilities for both local and international investors seeking exposure to one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

The NSE operates under the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya and is governed by an 11-member board. In 2014, after raising Ksh627 million through an IPO, it demutualized and listed on its own main board.

To track performance, the NSE introduced the market-capitalization-weighted All-Share Index (NASI) in 2008, followed in 2011 by the FTSE NSE Kenya 15 and FTSE NSE Kenya 25 indices, developed with FTSE International.

The exchange’s market value has grown to Ksh3.01 trillion ($23.5 billion), up from Ksh2.04 trillion ($15.72 billion) in March, reflecting its rising influence in regional finance. Performance remains tied to Kenya’s economic fundamentals, industry trends, and global market shifts.
