The acquisition strengthens Champion’s presence in Africa’s fast-growing RTD market, positioning it to compete more aggressively across Nigeria and beyond.
The deal, structured as an asset carve-out, transfers Bullet’s intellectual property and brand portfolio into a newly incorporated entity in the Netherlands.
Champion gains leverage in Africa’s drinks sector
Regulatory approval is still required from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) before closing.
Champion Breweries will hold a controlling stake in the new venture, while Belgium’s Vinar N.V., the majority shareholder of Sun Mark, will retain a minority interest.
Once completed, the transaction will allow Champion Breweries to consolidate Bullet’s financial performance, unlocking benefits from foreign exchange earnings, stronger distributor leverage, portfolio expansion, and supply chain integration.
Bullet is already established in more than 14 African markets, including Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania.
In Nigeria, Bullet Black is the leading RTD alcoholic brand, while Bullet Blue ranks among the top six energy drinks.
Strong regional footprint fuels expansion drive
The brand’s strong regional presence gives Champion a powerful platform to scale distribution across Africa’s booming beverage market.
Champion Breweries, incorporated in 1974 and now operating under the technical supervision of EnjoyCorp, has steadily invested in production technology and brand development.
The company reported ₦15.9 billion ($10.3 million) in revenue for the first half of 2025, up from ₦9.5 billion ($6.2 million) in the same period of 2024, underscoring its growth momentum.
With the Bullet acquisition, Champion Breweries is betting on Africa’s rising demand for RTDs and energy drinks, while signaling its ambition to become a bigger force in the continent’s beverage industry.
