Perched between Namibia’s Kalahari Desert and the Khomas Highlands, Gmundner Lodge is redefining luxury safari travel in southern Africa with a rare mix of sustainability, high design, and immersive experiences.

Located just southeast of Windhoek, the eco-luxury lodge offers travelers a modern safari retreat that balances barefoot elegance with responsible tourism.

A vision of eco-luxury in Africa

Opened in 2021, Gmundner Lodge was founded by Markus Friesacher, owner of Austria’s Gmundner Keramik, Europe’s oldest ceramics company.

His vision: a carbon-neutral African lodge that reflects Namibia’s cultural roots and natural beauty while setting new standards for sustainable tourism. Constructed from local materials and powered entirely by solar energy, the property is a model of eco-conscious luxury.

The lodge’s 12 suites—ranging from intimate doubles to spacious family setups—channel classic safari style with billowing canvas roofs, handcrafted campaign furniture, and vintage curios.

Farm-to-table dining, served on heritage ceramics

Food is central to the Gmundner experience. Its on-site farm supplies organic produce, dairy, honey, and free-range meats, making every meal a true farm-to-table affair.

Dishes are served on signature Gmundner ceramics, linking the Namibian lodge to centuries-old European craftsmanship. A curated wine cellar, spotlighting South African vintages, pairs seamlessly with each dining experience.

Wellness rooted in nature

Wellness at Gmundner Lodge integrates indigenous practices with modern therapies. Treatments follow the Makai™ method, a philosophy of holistic healing rooted in local tradition.

Guests can also unwind at the infinity pool, stargaze by the boma fire pit, or recharge in open-air fitness spaces designed to connect body and mind with nature.

Gmundner Lodge Wellness and Spa

Adventure tailored to every traveler

Beyond relaxation, the lodge’s private reserve unlocks a spectrum of adventure: sunrise game drives, horseback safaris, helicopter flights, e-motocross, tennis, golf, archery, and sundowner cocktails in the bush.

Guests can also engage in cultural immersion through art workshops linked to the San Art Project, supporting local artisans and preserving indigenous traditions.

Conservation and community at the core

Gmundner Lodge is more than a luxury safari destination—it’s a blueprint for responsible travel in Africa. Through sustainable farming, wildlife conservation, and skills training for local staff, the lodge invests in Namibia’s environmental and social future.

Its model proves that luxury tourism and conservation can thrive together, offering travelers both indulgence and purpose.

For global travelers seeking a luxury safari that is both sustainable and unforgettable, Gmundner Lodge Namibia stands as one of Africa’s most compelling destinations.
