Africa’s leisure industry is finding its rhythm again. Rising disposable incomes and a steady rebound in tourism are turning amusement parks into both gathering places and business ventures.

From roller coasters in Johannesburg to water slides on Tunisia’s coast, these parks are more than playgrounds—they are destinations that connect fun, family, and opportunity.

For families, they offer escapes from the ordinary.

For cities create jobs and fuel tourism. And for investors, they represent a growing market shaped by Africa’s expanding middle class.

As new projects break ground in Kenya, Nigeria, and Morocco, amusement parks are steadily becoming part of everyday life for many households.

From the wave pools of Mzansi to the themed villages of Tunisia, these parks are also reflections of culture. They mix entertainment with history, blending international attractions with local traditions.

What was once considered a luxury outing is increasingly seen as a weekend option for families across the continent.

Here are the 10 largest amusement parks in Africa, ranked by scale, attractions, and popularity:

1. Mzansi Theme Park
Country: South Africa
Often called Africa’s biggest water park, Mzansi has become a household name. It boasts high-speed slides, giant wave pools, and family splash zones, hosting tens of thousands of guests on peak days.

2. FunCity Family Water and Theme Park
Country: Tanzania
In Dar es Salaam, FunCity sprawls across 40 acres with more than 25 attractions. Crowds of up to 10,000 visitors daily show how demand for entertainment is reshaping Tanzania’s leisure sector.

3. Jungle Aqua Park
Country: Egypt
Located in Hurghada on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, Jungle Aqua Park is one of Africa’s largest water parks, boasting more than 30 pools and over 35 water slides. Its scale and variety make it a regional leader in aquatic entertainment. The park appeals equally to families seeking safe splash zones and thrill-seekers looking for high-speed slides. Being part of a resort complex, it benefits from a steady flow of international tourists, cementing its role as a pillar of Egypt’s leisure industry.

4. Gold Reef City
Country: South Africa
Built on a former gold mine, Gold Reef City blends history with modern thrills. Visitors ride the Tower of Terror roller coaster, wander through a museum on Johannesburg’s mining past, and enjoy live shows and a casino.

5. Ratanga Junction
Country: South Africa
Known as the “Wildest Place in Africa,” Ratanga was famous for The Cobra, a looping steel coaster. Though the site has been redeveloped, it remains part of South Africa’s cultural memory.

6. Terra Mitica
Country: Tunisia
Inspired by ancient civilizations, Terra Mitica divides its zones into Egypt, Greece, and Rome. It mixes education with rides, appealing to school groups and thrill-seekers alike.

7. Carthage Land
Country: Morocco

The park’s design draws inspiration from the ancient Carthaginian civilization, offering visitors a journey through history alongside roller coasters, family rides, and water attractions. For Morocco, Carthage Land represents a growing appetite for large-scale leisure investments.

Its centerpiece is a massive wave pool capable of producing waves up to two meters high, flanked by winding slides and lazy rivers. Families are drawn to its tropical landscaping and children’s play areas, while adventure seekers test the gravity-defying Temple of Courage slide. The Valley reinforces Sun City’s reputation as a top-tier global resort.

9. Sindbad Aqua Park
Country: Egypt
In the resort city of Hurghada, Sindbad Aqua Park is designed as a family-friendly aquatic escape. Unlike mega-scale parks, it focuses on accessibility and comfort, offering a mix of slides, pools, and splash zones suited to children and adults alike. Its central location and integration with nearby resorts make it a popular choice for tourists seeking leisure without venturing far from the Red Sea coast.

10. Wild Waves Water Park
Country: South Africa
Part of the Wild Coast Sun Resort in Port Edward, Wild Waves Water Park is one of South Africa’s most advanced water-based attractions owned and managed by Sun International.
