North Island, an exclusive private island located in the north of the Indian Ocean archipelago, is not just another private resort. Barely two square kilometers in size, it rises from the granite peaks of the Seychelles and offers seclusion that is increasingly scarce.
With only 11 villas spread along the shoreline, conservation at its core and the Indian Ocean stretching out like a natural moat, it feels less like a getaway and more like a sanctuary rebuilt with care.

A second life for an abandoned island
The island once served as a coconut plantation before being left to decay. Its revival began with a long ecological effort known locally as “Noah’s Ark.” Invasive species were removed, native plants were reintroduced, and wildlife slowly returned.
Giant Aldabra tortoises now roam forest paths, while sea turtles nest again on untouched beaches. Out of this restoration came a resort built to support — not compete with — the ecosystem around it.
North Island was managed for years by Wilderness Holdings and later became part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection in 2019. In 2025, it returned to private, family-led ownership, opening a new chapter that remains rooted in the values that first brought the island back to life.

Life by the water
Just 30 kilometers north of Mahé, the island is accessible by helicopter or boat. Once there, time slows to the rhythm of the sea. Guests spend days snorkeling among bright reefs, kayaking through turquoise shallows or watching turtles crawl ashore under the stars.
Privacy is central: each villa opens onto its own stretch of sand, while Villa North, perched on granite boulders, offers even deeper solitude.

Design, dining and wellness
The villas blend natural stone and wood, with plunge pools, shaded decks and direct beach access. Meals are tailored to guests, with chefs shaping menus around daily catches and on-site produce.
Dining may be a barbecue on the beach, a private garden supper or a communal gathering at the island’s Piazza.
Wellness goes beyond the spa. Sunrise yoga, forest walks and quiet meditation on the sand make the island itself part of the treatment.

Conservation with guests at its center
Environmental stewardship is not only behind the scenes. Visitors may help marine biologists on dives, plant endemic trees or monitor turtle nests. For many, the chance to take part in conservation is as memorable as the luxury.

A place for milestones
North Island has become a favored retreat for those seeking discretion. Royal honeymoons, weddings and family gatherings have all taken place here, with the option to reserve the entire island for complete privacy. Its beaches, cliffs and forests create natural settings for moments that feel deeply personal.

An enduring escape
Today, North Island stands among Africa’s most exclusive retreats. With just 11 villas, a history of ecological renewal and the Indian Ocean as its backdrop, it offers something beyond luxury: the feeling of being part of a place where nature has been restored and where the horizon feels quietly endless.
