  • The move supports Uganda’s goal to become a leading ICT hub in East Africa.

Paratus Group, one of Africa’s leading telecommunications and ICT network providers, has entered the Ugandan market through a joint venture with Kampala-based Roke Telkom, forming Paratus Uganda.

The venture represents a key step in Paratus’s effort to strengthen Africa’s digital infrastructure and connect more businesses across borders.

By combining Paratus’s pan-African and global network expertise with Roke’s 19 years of local experience, the partnership aims to deliver faster, more reliable internet and managed ICT services in Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region.

Partnership to strengthen local broadband access

Through Paratus Uganda, the two companies plan to expand broadband coverage and build scalable digital infrastructure designed for fast-growing sectors such as healthcare, mining, tourism and nongovernmental organizations.

The new company will use Roke Telkom’s existing metropolitan fiber rings in major cities alongside Paratus’s satellite and cloud technologies. The goal is to offer affordable, low-latency connectivity to meet increasing demand from local enterprises and international clients.

“Our local reach, combined with Paratus Group’s global network, creates a strong foundation for reliable and secure digital services,” said Edwin Kyambadde, Roke’s representative for Paratus Uganda. “This partnership gives Ugandan businesses new options to connect, grow and compete globally.”

Expanding Africa’s connected future

Paratus Group CEO Schalk Erasmus said the move aligns with the company’s long-term plan to create a seamless network across the continent. “Opening operations in Uganda brings us closer to our vision of closing digital gaps between neighboring countries and accelerating Africa’s digital economy,” Erasmus said.

Martin Cox, Paratus’s Group Commercial Executive, added that working with Roke underscores the company’s focus on trusted partnerships. “Collaboration with local operators ensures we build sustainable connectivity that benefits communities and businesses alike,” he said.

Investing in Africa’s next phase of connectivity

Founded more than two decades ago, Paratus Group operates in 15 African markets and provides fiber, satellite and data center solutions for enterprise and government clients.

The company is expanding its investments in low-Earth orbit satellite systems, private mobile networks and next-generation digital infrastructure to support Africa’s growing demand for connectivity.

As Uganda seeks to position itself as a regional ICT hub, Paratus Uganda is expected to help boost internet access, improve business productivity and support cross-border trade strengthening the country’s role in Africa’s digital future.
