Champion Breweries PLC, a Nigerian brewing company, has launched a ₦42 billion ($29.4 million) public offer, marking a decisive step by the Nigerian brewer to scale across Africa’s fast-growing alcoholic beverages and energy drinks market.
The capital raise underscores rising investor appetite for consumer goods companies with regional reach, foreign-currency earnings and exposure to Africa’s expanding middle class.
The Nigerian Exchange-listed company is offering 2.63 billion ordinary shares at ₦16 ($0.00069) per share, following approvals from the Securities and Exchange Commission and Nigerian Exchange Limited.
The offer opened on January 8, 2026, and will close on January 21, 2026, with the new shares expected to be listed on the NGX shortly after.
Capital raise backs Pan-African brand expansion
The public offer represents the second phase of Champion Breweries’ capital-raising strategy, following a successful ₦15.9 billion ($11.1 million) rights issue to existing shareholders.
Proceeds from both transactions will be channeled primarily toward the acquisition of the Bullet brand portfolio, alongside working capital and targeted capacity expansion.
The Bullet transaction is structured as an asset carve-out, enabling Champion to acquire trademarks, formulations and commercial rights across multiple African markets without heavy capital expenditure.
Management says the structure allows for rapid market entry, faster scale-up and improved return on invested capital—key metrics closely watched by institutional investors.
Strategic bet on FX-generating beverage brands
Bullet is one of Nigeria’s leading ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages and a top-performing energy drink brand, with distribution across 14 African countries.
A significant share of its revenues is generated outside Nigeria, providing Champion with natural foreign-exchange hedging and diversified earnings at a time of persistent currency volatility.
“This public offer gives investors direct exposure to Champion’s next growth phase,” said Inalegwu Adoga, managing director of Champion Breweries Plc. “The Bullet acquisition combines our nearly 50 years of brewing expertise with a scalable, pan-African beverage platform built for growth.”
Disciplined growth, broader investor access
The transaction is being led by Rand Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited, with Africa Prudential Plc serving as registrar.
Investors can subscribe through authorized receiving agents or digitally via the NGX Invest platform, reflecting the exchange’s push to widen retail and diaspora participation in Nigeria’s capital markets.
David Butler, group managing director of enJOYcorp, described the deal as a capital-efficient expansion strategy. “The asset carve-out model allows Champion to grow across Africa while unlocking hard-currency revenues. This offer broadens investor access to that long-term value creation story,” he said.
Financial performance strengthens investment case
Founded in 1974, Champion Breweries has continued to modernize operations through technology upgrades and workforce development.
The strategy is translating into stronger results. In the first half of 2025, the brewer reported ₦15.9 billion ($11.1 million) in revenue and ₦2.3 billion ($1.6 million) in net income—its strongest half-year performance on record.
With a fortified balance sheet, a growing portfolio of high-margin beverage brands, and expanding regional exposure, Champion Breweries is positioning itself as a rising consumer-goods play in Africa’s evolving alcohol and energy drink market, one increasingly on the radar of global and local investors alike.
