Ivory Coast is set to host Africa’s tallest skyscraper as the F Tower (Tour F) rises in Abidjan, positioning the country at the center of the continent’s architectural and economic spotlight by 2026.

Once completed, the 75-floor supertall tower will rise 421 meters, surpassing Egypt’s 393.8-meter Iconic Tower in the New Administrative Capital to become Africa’s tallest building by height. By floor count, however, the Iconic Tower will retain its title as the continent’s tallest, standing at 77 floors compared with Tour F’s 75.

Africa’s tallest skyscraper takes shape
Located in Abidjan’s Plateau district, the administrative and commercial heart of the country, F Tower is designed as a flagship government complex that will consolidate multiple ministries and public agencies currently dispersed across the city.

The project reflects the Ivory Coast’s push to modernize public administration while maximizing scarce, high-value urban land through vertical development.

Why F Tower matters economically
Construction began in 2021, nearly four decades after the tower was first envisioned in the 1970s as part of Abidjan’s original administrative master plan.

Momentum accelerated after PFO Africa appointed Belgian construction giant BESIX Group to oversee structural works. The tower was designed by Lebanese-Ivorian architect Pierre Fakhoury, blending advanced engineering with African-inspired aesthetics.

Abidjan’s rising global skyline
Beyond its record-breaking height, F Tower is notable for its scale and multifunctional design. The building will offer about 140,000 square meters of gross floor area, housing offices, meeting rooms, restaurants, and a large lecture hall. A 30-meter glass “lantern” at the top will provide panoramic views of Abidjan and the Ébrié Lagoon, reinforcing the tower’s symbolic national status.

With estimated construction costs of €450 million ($531.84 million), F Tower stands among the most significant public infrastructure investments in West Africa. Its completion will not only reshape Abidjan’s skyline but also strengthen Ivory Coast’s standing as a regional hub for governance, investment, and modern urban development.
