Mandarin Oriental Egypt expansion

Luxury hospitality leader Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is expanding aggressively in Egypt, assuming management of two of the country’s most iconic heritage hotels from Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG), a Cairo-based developer under Egyptian billionaire Hisham Talaat Moustafa, while launching its first-ever luxury Nile cruise.

The integrated strategy links Cairo, Luxor and Aswan under a single ultra-premium ecosystem aimed at high-net-worth global travelers.

Old Cataract to relaunch under Mandarin Oriental
In Aswan, the group will take over the historic Old Cataract Hotel in May 2026. Renovations of the Nile Wing will proceed ahead of a full relaunch in July 2027 as Mandarin Oriental Old Cataract, Aswan.

Overlooking the Nile and facing the Temple of Khnum, the upgraded property will feature redesigned suites, six dining venues and The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, reinforcing Egypt’s positioning in the global luxury hospitality market.

Winter Palace restoration in Luxor
In Luxor, the legendary Winter Palace Hotel will close in early 2026 for a comprehensive restoration. It is scheduled to reopen in July 2027 as Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace, Luxor.

Located near the Temple of Luxor, the property will blend preserved Belle Époque architecture with contemporary design, offering high-end accommodations, landscaped gardens and premium event facilities.

First Mandarin Oriental Nile Cruise
Complementing its land-based portfolio, Mandarin Oriental will debut a luxury Nile river cruise developed by K.G. Company for Real Estate and Tourism Investment, part of the Garranah Group.

The vessel will offer three-, four- and seven-night itineraries between Luxor and Aswan.
Expansive suites, curated cultural programming and multiple fine-dining venues aim to capture growing demand for experiential travel in Egypt.

Strategic bet on Egypt tourism growth
The expansion comes as Egypt ranks among the fastest-growing tourism markets globally. By uniting Cairo, Luxor and Aswan under one brand, Mandarin Oriental is creating a destination-led luxury circuit that strengthens its footprint in North Africa’s high-end hospitality sector.

The strategy positions the group to capture rising luxury travel demand while leveraging Egypt’s deep cultural heritage and river tourism appeal.
