Globacom strengthens its telecom network across Nigeria, improving broadband access and mobile data reliability for millions of users.

Globacom has expanded its network capacity nationwide, improving mobile data speed and reliability for millions of users. The upgrade is enhancing service quality and attracting new subscribers as demand for fast, stable internet grows across the country. This positions Glo to maintain its market share amid increasing reliance on digital connectivity and mobile services.

The latest gains follow the completion of a large-scale infrastructure upgrade activated on Dec. 4, 2025, anchored on new spectrum acquisitions and a deliberate expansion of capacity. At its core, the upgrade is a promise of a congestion-free, high-speed 4G experience for subscribers, one that reflects a broader effort to raise the standard of connectivity nationwide.

LTE expansion eases urban congestion

With additional high-capacity spectrum now deployed, the network is handling more data traffic at higher speeds. Customers are seeing quicker downloads, smoother video streaming and more reliable connections across both major cities and smaller towns. The changes are particularly noticeable at busy hours, when networks often struggle to keep up with demand.

Beyond spectrum, Globacom has expanded its physical infrastructure with the rollout of thousands of new LTE sites. In high-density areas such as markets and universities, where heavy usage can slow performance, the added sites are easing pressure on the network. Early indicators show improved download speeds and more stable connectivity across several regions.

Power supply, a long-standing challenge in Nigeria’s telecom sector, is also being addressed. The company has installed hybrid battery systems at many of its base stations, reducing dependence on diesel generators while improving uptime. That shift is helping to keep services running more consistently, even in areas where electricity supply is unreliable.

At the core of the upgrade are enhancements to switching systems and data centres, allowing the network to manage rising data volumes more efficiently. These back-end improvements are aimed at sustaining performance as internet usage continues to increase nationwide.

The upgrade comes at a time when the Nigerian Communications Commission is reviewing competition and market dynamics in the sector. The industry contributes more than 9 percent to Nigeria’s gross domestic product, with regulators pushing for greater efficiency, innovation and consumer protection.

Network upgrades meet rising data demand

Globacom’s strategy builds on its earlier move to introduce per-second billing, a pricing model that changed how telecom services are charged in Nigeria and made voice services more affordable for many users. That decision helped reshape competition and remains a reference point in the market.

Still, pricing is only part of the story. The company’s investment in fibre-optic infrastructure, spanning major cities and key transport routes, continues to support its growing network. Combined with ongoing upgrades to base stations, the system is being positioned to handle higher demand while maintaining service quality.

For users, the impact is clear. Students rely on affordable data to access online learning tools, while small businesses depend on stable connections to manage sales and communicate with customers. These everyday needs are driving usage and shaping expectations for reliable service.

Telecom revenue rises with network expansion

The business effects are also becoming visible. Growth in voice and data services, alongside enterprise and wholesale offerings, is supporting stronger revenue performance. As network quality improves, higher usage is helping to lift earnings and reinforce the company’s position in a competitive market.

As digital access becomes more important to Nigeria’s economy, telecom operators are increasingly judged by consistency and reliability. Globacom’s latest network expansion reflects an effort to meet that standard, focusing on steady improvements that users can see in their daily experience.
