Luxury tourism in the Indian Ocean is drawing renewed interest as travelers look for destinations that combine privacy, culture and natural beauty.

The Seychelles, long known for its powdery white beaches and clear turquoise waters, is becoming a focal point for upscale tourism in Africa.

International hotel brands and boutique operators are expanding across the islands as global travel rebounds.

Visitors are seeking smaller resorts that offer personal service, distinctive design and experiences rooted in local culture.

On the southern coast of Mahé, Mango House Seychelles offers that balance.

The resort sits on the quiet shores of Anse aux Poules Bleues, an area known for calm waters and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

Its setting gives guests a sense of seclusion while keeping them close to the island’s natural attractions.

The property also carries an unusual history. Mango House was once the private home of celebrated Italian fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri, who built the residence during his travels to the Seychelles.

His artistic influence still shapes the resort’s atmosphere, from its design to the relaxed sense of hospitality.

Now part of Hilton’s LXR Hotels & Resorts collection, the property has been transformed into an intimate luxury retreat that reflects both its heritage and its island surroundings.

A boutique stay shaped by the island

Mango House features 41 rooms and suites, designed with light tropical colors, natural materials and wide balconies that open to views of the ocean or surrounding bay.

The interiors blend contemporary comfort with subtle Creole touches.

For travelers seeking added privacy, the Three-Bedroom Bay House with Plunge Pool offers a villa-style stay overlooking the water.

The residence includes a large terrace, living and dining areas, and a private pool—an option well suited for families or small groups traveling together.

Island experiences and local flavors

Life at Mango House centers on the outdoors. Guests can snorkel in the clear waters of Anse La Mouche Bay, join diving trips, explore nearby wetlands or hike through Mahé’s forested hills.

Food and culture are also central to the experience.

Cooking sessions such as the Kari Koko Poul Creole curry class introduce visitors to local flavors, while evening jazz performances provide a relaxed way to end the day.

Dining at the resort ranges from Japanese-inspired dishes at Kokoye Lounge to Italian cuisine at Muse and Creole specialties at Moutya, which highlights ingredients and traditions from across the Seychelles.

Wellness by the ocean

The resort’s Anpe Spa—“anpe” meaning “at peace” in Creole—offers ocean-view treatment rooms and therapies inspired by island ingredients.

Guests can also unwind beside three pools or keep active at the fully equipped fitness center.

Anpe Spa offers ocean-view treatments inspired by local island ingredients and Creole wellness traditions.

Together, the setting, cuisine and wellness offerings make Mango House a distinctive stop for travelers exploring one of Africa’s most celebrated island destinations.
