LeBron James sets NBA all-time field goal record

LeBron James, the NBA superstar added another milestone to his long career Thursday night, becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in field goals. The record came even as the Los Angeles Lakers fell 120-113 to the Denver Nuggets.

James passed the previous mark held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with a fadeaway jumper in the first quarter, moving beyond Abdul-Jabbar’s 15,837 career field goals. The achievement adds to a long list of records for James, who already holds the league’s all-time scoring mark.

At 41, James is in his 23rd season, fueling speculation about retirement. In January, he told reporters, “I don’t know what the future holds.”

James scores 16, injured in fourth

James scored 16 points in the game but appeared to injure his left elbow in the fourth quarter after colliding with a cameraman while being pushed off the court.

Play was paused as he left the floor. He returned in the final two minutes but clearly played through pain.

Denver controlled the game from start to finish, though the Lakers drew within one point with two minutes left. Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with a triple-double, recording 28 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds. “We scored when we needed,” Jokic said. “They’re a difficult team to beat.”

The outcome carries playoff implications. The Lakers sit in the final automatic playoff spot at sixth, just behind Denver, and two games ahead of the Phoenix Suns, who lost 105-103 to the Chicago Bulls.

James’s career points total now exceeds 43,000, nearly 5,000 more than Abdul-Jabbar, whom he passed in 2023. While the points record was partially aided by the introduction of the three-point shot, his new field goal milestone highlights his durability and skill over more than two decades.

LeBron James, the first active NBA player to become a billionaire, boasts a net worth of $1.3 billion. Off the court, James has also built a substantial business portfolio.
