Africa’s agricultural sector is driven not only by millions of smallholder farmers but also by some of the continent’s largest agribusiness companies listed on major stock exchanges.

These enterprises operate expansive farms and plantations, process agricultural commodities and distribute food products across domestic and global markets.

From palm oil estates in Nigeria to sugar plantations in Zambia and tea estates in Kenya, Africa’s largest agribusiness companies play a central role in food production, exports and rural employment.

Many of these firms combine farming with agro-processing, logistics and integrated supply chains, transforming agriculture into a major contributor to shareholder value and economic growth.

Shore Africa compiled a list of 50 of the largest listed agribusiness companies in Africa, spanning sectors including palm oil, sugar, poultry, dairy, fisheries, seeds, plantation crops and agricultural inputs.

The companies are listed across major African exchanges including the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Nigerian Exchange, Egyptian Exchange, Nairobi Securities Exchange, Casablanca Stock Exchange and others.

Together they represent the scale and diversity of Africa’s agricultural economy. Some operate massive plantations producing crops such as tea, coffee, bananas, macadamia, cocoa and avocados.

Others specialize in livestock, poultry, aquaculture or agricultural inputs that support farming productivity across the continent.

Beyond production, these companies play a major role in export markets, supplying food and raw materials to global buyers while supporting employment and rural development.
