Air travel between Africa and Europe is set to receive a short-term lift as Air Seychelles prepares to launch nonstop flights linking the Indian Ocean island nation with the French capital.

The carrier said the new service to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport will begin March 20, 2026, offering travelers a direct connection between Seychelles and one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs.

The airline plans to operate three flights a week for an initial one-month period.

The temporary service comes as several airlines adjust schedules due to disruptions affecting traditional transit routes through parts of the Middle East, creating stronger demand for direct connections between Africa and Europe.

Tourism officials say the route could provide timely support for Seychelles’ visitor economy.

France has long ranked among the island nation’s most important tourism markets, and easier air access may help attract more European travelers seeking beach holidays in the Indian Ocean.

The new connection is also expected to benefit Seychellois travelers heading to Europe for business, study and leisure, while giving European passengers a more direct option to reach the archipelago.

Long-haul aircraft for direct travel

Flights will be operated using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner through an agreement with Etihad Airways.

The partnership allows Air Seychelles to introduce long-haul service without expanding its existing fleet.

The aircraft will carry 290 passengers, including 28 seats in Business Class and 262 in Economy.

Business Class passengers will have fully lie-flat seats designed for overnight travel, while the Economy cabin is arranged to offer additional comfort on long-distance routes.

Air Seychelles currently operates mostly narrow-body aircraft, making the Dreamliner a significant step up in both capacity and range for the airline.

Paris connection opens wider access

Paris remains one of Europe’s leading travel gateways, with connections to cities across the continent.

The direct flight is expected to make it easier for visitors from France and neighboring countries to reach Seychelles without multiple transfers.

In a statement, the airline said the route reflects its commitment to improving international links for the island nation while supporting tourism, one of Seychelles’ most important economic sectors.

Air Seychelles will initially run three flights a week, with the option of adding a fourth weekly service depending on demand and operational requirements.
