Transcorp Hotels Plc has emerged as Africa’s most valuable publicly listed hospitality company, with a market capitalization exceeding $1.5 billion on the Nigerian Exchange.

The hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria has strengthened its position through rising earnings, premium hotel assets, and growing investor confidence in Africa’s expanding hospitality sector.

Anchored by the iconic Transcorp Hilton Abuja, the company has transformed a former state-owned hospitality asset into one of the continent’s most influential business travel hubs serving diplomats, multinational executives, and global conferences.

Strong earnings fuel market capitalization
Transcorp Hotels recorded strong financial performance in 2025, reinforcing its leadership among publicly traded hospitality companies in Africa.

Revenue rose 38% to N97.04 billion ($70.99 million), up from N70.13 billion ($51.3 million) in 2024, driven by higher room occupancy, conferences, and major corporate events hosted at its Abuja flagship property. Profitability improved even faster. Profit after tax climbed 47% to N21.85 billion ($15.99 million), compared with N14.9 billion ($10.9 million) the previous year.

The company also paid N10.97 billion ($8.02 million) in taxes in 2025, highlighting its growing contribution to Nigeria’s economy.

Balance sheet expansion strengthens growth
The company’s financial position strengthened alongside earnings. Total assets rose 14% to N159.9 billion ($116.94 million) from N140.7 billion ($102.9 million), while retained earnings increased to N77.53 billion ($56.7 million) from N63.23 billion ($46.24 million).

The stronger balance sheet provides additional financial capacity for expansion across Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism sector. Investor enthusiasm around the stock has pushed the company’s valuation above $1.5 billion, making Transcorp Hotels the most valuable listed hospitality brand on the continent.

Key assets drive hospitality leadership
Transcorp Hotels operates several major hospitality assets. These include the flagship Transcorp Hilton Abuja, one of the largest five-star hotels in West Africa with more than 600 rooms and extensive conference facilities.

The company also operates Transcorp Hotels Calabar and has expanded its digital hospitality footprint through Aura by Transcorp Hotels, a technology-driven accommodation platform connecting travelers with curated stays and experiences. Through these assets, the company has positioned itself at the center of Nigeria’s fast-growing business travel and conference economy.

Leadership transition signals strategic expansion
In January 2026, healthcare entrepreneur Awele Elumelu assumed the role of chairperson of Transcorp Hotels.

Vivien Awele Elumelu is also chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited and co-founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Her appointment signals a new strategic phase for the hospitality group as it seeks to deepen its influence across Africa’s travel and lifestyle economy.

With a powerful flagship property, expanding digital platforms, and strong financial performance, Transcorp Hotels has evolved into a benchmark for hospitality investment on African capital markets. The company’s rise highlights the growing role of premium travel infrastructure in driving economic growth and investor value across Africa.
