Burna Boy emerges first African artist to earn $3 million on Oceania tour

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has set a new milestone, becoming the first African artist to generate $3 million from a single tour in Oceania.

Touring Data, a global concert tracking platform, reported that Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness” tour sold 31,000 tickets across four Australian shows, totaling $3.1 million in revenue. The Sydney stop at Qudos Bank Arena alone brought in $1.117 million, marking the highest-grossing concert for an African artist in the region.

The tour spans 20 shows across North America, Europe, and Oceania, demonstrating the global appeal of African music. During the Australian leg, audiences flocked to four shows, selling nearly 31,000 tickets and generating a combined $3.1 million. The milestone highlights that African artists can command large international arenas while building substantial global followings.

A Global Music Icon

Burna Boy first made history in 2021 as the first Nigerian solo artist to win a Grammy when Twice As Tall took Best Global Music Album. His follow-up album, Love, Damini, featuring hits like “Last Last” and “For My Hand” with Ed Sheeran, further expanded his international reach. He has earned Grammy nominations for six consecutive years.

By 2023, Burna Boy was the most-streamed Sub-Saharan African artist on Spotify for the second year in a row. Rolling Stone also recognized his influence, ranking him 197th among the 200 greatest singers of all time.

In 2024, he became the first African artist to perform at the Grammy Awards, sharing the stage with Brandy and 21 Savage. That year, he also headlined Stade de France, becoming the first non-Francophone Afrobeats artist to perform there. His global recognition continued with a 2025 Grammy nomination for “Higher” in the Best African Music Performance category.

Burna Boy’s success on and off the stage underscores the growing impact of African music worldwide and cements his place as one of the continent’s leading voices on the international stage.
