Rowad Modern Engineering, a subsidiary of Elsewedy Electric, has commenced the development and expansion of facilities for Saudi Logistics Services Company at King Khalid International Airport, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s push to strengthen its logistics infrastructure.

Upgrading cargo and logistics capacity
The project sees Rowad acting as the general contractor, overseeing execution across all phases while maintaining high engineering and technical standards. The scope includes rehabilitation and modernization of existing infrastructure alongside the construction of new facilities designed to enhance cargo handling and logistics performance.

The upgrade is tailored to improve operational efficiency, modernize architectural and engineering systems, and boost sustainability. Rowad’s execution model ensures flexibility to meet current and future demand, while carefully managing operations within an active airport environment to avoid disruption. The project is also aligned with global sustainability benchmarks, targeting LEED Gold certification as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader environmental and infrastructure goals.

Supporting Saudi Arabia’s logistics ambitions
“The SAL facility project represents a significant addition to the Kingdom’s logistics ecosystem,” said Mohamed Mahlab, CEO of Rowad Modern Engineering. He noted that the development supports Saudi Arabia’s strategic transformation agenda and reinforces sustainability priorities under Vision 2030.

The contract underscores Rowad’s growing footprint in Saudi Arabia, particularly in aviation and logistics infrastructure. The company is positioning itself as a key execution partner in projects aimed at transforming the Kingdom into a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Expanding regional project portfolio
Rowad is currently executing several high-profile projects in Saudi Arabia, including the Red Sea Museum, the Ministry of Culture headquarters in Diriyah, and developments in Al Ha’ir, Riyadh. Its parent company, Elsewedy Electric, recently completed and handed over the Saad Solar Power Plant in Riyadh, further strengthening its presence in the Kingdom’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

For Saudi Logistics Services Company, the airport upgrade is expected to enhance cargo throughput, improve service delivery, and support long-term growth in air freight demand.

For Elsewedy Electric, the project reinforces its strategy of expanding across high-growth markets through large-scale infrastructure execution, positioning the group at the center of the Middle East’s logistics and sustainability transformation.
