MTN Group has appointed seasoned corporate executive Noluthando Gosa to its South African board as a non-executive director, strengthening governance and strategic oversight across its largest market.

The appointment will take effect following the completion of her governance process as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the MTN Group Board.

Strengthening governance and board oversight
Gosa, who has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at MTN Group since April 2021, will continue her role at the group level while joining the MTN South Africa board. Her dual position underscores MTN’s push to align group and subsidiary governance structures as it navigates an increasingly complex telecoms landscape.

At the group level, she sits on key committees, including Risk Management and Compliance, Finance and Investment, and Audit, positions that place her at the center of strategic decision-making and oversight.

Deep telecoms and investment expertise
Gosa brings decades of experience spanning telecommunications, investment management, and corporate strategy. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Akhona Group. She also holds a 6.15% stake in ArcelorMittal South Africa and was a founding member of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, giving her deep regulatory insight into the sector.

Her career also includes senior roles in financial services, where she gained recognition as a top-rated telecommunications analyst at a leading South African bank. Beyond MTN, she holds non-executive roles across multiple firms, including Bidvest International Logistics and Apex Financial Services Group, and has previously served on several JSE-listed boards such as ArcelorMittal South Africa, Investec Asset Management (now Ninety One), and Aon South Africa.

Strategic alignment across MTN’s operations
Gosa’s appointment comes as MTN continues to strengthen governance frameworks across its operating companies. By integrating experienced directors with deep sector knowledge into subsidiary boards, the group aims to enhance risk management, capital allocation, and long-term value creation. With academic credentials spanning communications and business, including an MBA, Gosa’s expanded role is expected to reinforce MTN’s governance depth while supporting its growth ambitions in South Africa and across its broader African footprint.

In parallel, MTN has also executed a sweeping boardroom overhaul appointing Herman Bosman, Advocate Ouma Rasethaba, Stéphane Richard, Ignatius Sehoole, and Saf Yeboah-Amankwah as independent non-executive directors effective March 31, 2026. The additions bring deep expertise across finance, telecoms, governance, and technology, strengthening oversight and long-term strategy. At the same time, long-serving directors Stan Miller and Nkululeko Sowazi will retire after more than nine years. In South Africa, Chairman Mike Harper will step down, with Sindi Mabaso-Koyana set to take over, ensuring continuity as MTN reinforces governance across its operations.
