Elsewedy Electric, the Cairo-based multinational cable and electrical equipment manufacturer led by the Egyptian billionaire El-Sewedy family, has advanced its footprint in Saudi Arabia’s power sector, delivering a portfolio of six high-voltage substations as part of efforts to strengthen electricity transmission across the Kingdom.

The substations, operating at voltage levels between 110 and 115 kilovolts, form part of the EGX-listed firm’s broader strategy to support grid reliability and meet rising electricity demand driven by rapid urban and industrial expansion.

Strengthening Saudi Arabia’s power infrastructure

The projects were executed in collaboration with key sector players, including Saudi Electricity Company and National Grid Company, alongside global technology partners Hitachi Energy and Siemens Energy.

Together, the developments are aimed at improving transmission efficiency, enhancing network resilience, and ensuring continuity of electricity supply across multiple regions of the Kingdom.

The substations are strategically distributed across key regions spanning the Western Region, home to Jawharat Al Arous and Naqua, as well as Riyadh and the Eastern hub of Dammam, where Al-Nasriyah, Al-Khaleej-2, and Al-Fayhaa substations are located.

Driving reliability and long-term sustainability

Hesham Hegazy, CEO of Elsewedy Electric Power System Projects (PSP), the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) arm of Elsewedy Electric, said the projects underscore deepening collaboration with the National Grid Company while enhancing system reliability and flexibility. “These substations play a vital role in meeting growing electricity demand and supporting ongoing urban and industrial expansion, strengthening overall system stability and sustainability,” he noted.

Hegazy added that the company’s fully integrated turnkey delivery model enables it to execute complex infrastructure projects end-to-end, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in the region’s energy sector.

Regional expansion and integrated investments

The expansion builds on Elsewedy Electric’s growing presence in Saudi Arabia. Recently, Rowad Modern Engineering commenced development and expansion works for facilities owned by Saudi Logistics Services Company at King Khalid International Airport, further deepening the group’s role in the Kingdom’s infrastructure buildout.
