Park Hyatt Johannesburg has officially opened Room 32, a premium fine dining restaurant housed in the historic Sir Herbert Baker building in Rosebank.

As the city cements its place on Africa’s luxury travel map, Room 32 introduces a bold new culinary identity—celebrating indigenous South African flavors with elevated modern flair.

The launch signals a major stride in the evolution of Johannesburg’s luxury hospitality sector, blending world-class design, sustainability, and an immersive dining experience.

Culinary excellence meets cultural heritage

Head Chef Karel Jacobs leads the charge with a hyper-seasonal menu inspired by South Africa’s diverse terroir.

Drawing from local farmers and foragers, Jacobs creates dishes that highlight citrus in summer, earthy grains in winter, and charred vegetables in autumn.

Each plate is a modern tribute to South African culinary tradition—crafted with precision, sustainability, and story-driven innovation.

From fine-tuned degustation to elegant brunches, Room 32’s offerings reflect Johannesburg’s agricultural heritage while setting a new standard in fine dining.

Design-driven ambience in a historic landmark

Housed in a restored building by famed architect Sir Herbert Baker, Room 32 pairs heritage charm with contemporary interior design.

Soft lighting, curated South African artwork, and upscale furnishings create an atmosphere of intimate luxury—mirroring the hotel’s boutique status as one of the smallest Park Hyatt properties globally, with only 31 rooms.

The venue’s refined setting makes it ideal for business lunches, romantic evenings, or elevated social dining.

Curated hospitality and South African wine prestige

The beverage program, overseen by hospitality veteran Debi van Flymen, features a refined selection of South Africa’s premium wines, artisanal spirits, and signature non-alcoholic cocktails.

With decades of global experience, van Flymen brings world-class finesse to Park Hyatt’s Johannesburg flagship.

Whether indulging in afternoon High Tea or a curated wine-paired dinner, Room 32 offers a bespoke experience where every detail reflects understated opulence.

Sustainability and community at the core

Beyond taste and design, Room 32 emphasizes ethical sourcing and local empowerment.

Its close collaboration with regional growers and producers ensures not just freshness, but direct investment in community livelihoods—aligning with global sustainability trends in luxury hospitality.
