Egypt’s largest textile and apparel exhibition, Cairo Fashion & Tex, is seeking to secure more than $60 million in export deals as it opens its 77th edition in Cairo.
The event, first launched in 1993, has grown into the country’s flagship fashion and textile trade fair. Held twice a year, it remains the only international exhibition in Egypt specializing in yarn, fabrics, garments, trimming supplies and accessories.
Organizers say the showcase is designed to reinforce Egypt’s position as a competitive sourcing hub in the global apparel market.
Supporting Egyptian exports
This year’s edition, themed “Supporting Egyptian Exports,” features more than 350 local factories presenting exclusively Egyptian-made products.
The national focus underscores the government’s push to increase textile and garment exports, strengthen domestic production, and market Egyptian-made apparel as a credible alternative to Asian suppliers.
“We see growing interest from international buyers because Egyptian products are now more appealing not only in pricing but also in quality and delivery speed,” said Mohamed El-Sherif, chairperson of Pyramids International Group, which organizes the event. “We are competing with Turkey, and in some segments we could soon match or even surpass China.”

Expanding global reach
More than 1,000 international buyers from 20 countries are attending, including delegations from the U.S., Canada, Italy, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil. For the first time, representatives from Russia and Pakistan are present, a sign of Egypt’s widening footprint in the global fashion supply chain.
Regional participation is also strong, with official trade groups from Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the apparel industry.
Cairo as a year-round hub
Beyond exhibition stands, the fair offers factory visits and direct business-to-business meetings to help international buyers assess Egypt’s production capacity. El-Sherif noted that Pyramids International Group, which runs nearly 100 global exhibitions annually, remains focused on building Egypt’s textile platforms rather than expanding into unrelated sectors.
Cairo is positioning itself as a year-round apparel hub for Africa and the Middle East. Upcoming events include the Lingerie & Home Exhibition in November, the 78th edition of Cairo Fashion & Tex in October, and the Leather Exhibition in December.
Export ambitions on display
The textile sector is one of Egypt’s oldest industries, employing millions and serving as a key foreign-exchange earner. By promoting itself as a sourcing destination for global retailers, Egypt hopes to attract investment, create jobs, and boost foreign sales.
With $60 million in contracts on the line, Cairo Fashion & Tex is not just an industry gathering — it is part of a broader effort to position Egypt as a reliable player in the international fashion and apparel supply chain.
