Raxio Group, the pan-African data center operator, has launched Angola’s largest data center, a $30 million Tier III-certified facility in Luanda, as the country moves to position itself as a digital infrastructure hub for Southern Africa.
The opening marks a milestone in Africa’s fast-growing data center market, where demand for cloud computing, fintech, and e-commerce is fueling investment across the continent.
The 19,000-square-meter site in Luanda’s Cacuaco district is equipped with 3MW of IT power and capacity for more than 800 racks, making it Angola’s most advanced colocation and cloud-ready facility.
By hosting Angola’s Internet Exchange Point (IXP), the center will allow local internet traffic to stay within national borders, cutting costs, boosting connection speeds, and enhancing cybersecurity for enterprises, telecom operators, and financial institutions.
Angola’s digital economy gets a boost
“Raxio Angola represents a leap forward for our country’s digital economy,” said Mário Oliveira, Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
“This investment supports Angola’s vision of becoming a regional technology leader and delivers real benefits for businesses and citizens.”
The new facility comes as global tech firms and African enterprises accelerate digital transformation, driving up demand for colocation services, cloud hosting, and secure IT infrastructure.
Angola, with its strategic Atlantic coastline and improving fiber connectivity, is increasingly seen as a rising technology hub in Africa.
Part of Raxio’s Africa-wide expansion
Raxio’s Luanda data center is the company’s sixth facility on the continent, joining sites in Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire, with Tanzania next in line.
The expansion highlights Africa’s booming digital infrastructure sector, where investment is being driven by surging internet penetration and the growth of online services.
The facility is backed by two independent power substations, large-scale generators, UPS systems, and battery arrays—ensuring resilience and uptime for mission-critical operations.
“By bringing world-class infrastructure, we are unlocking faster, more reliable internet and creating the conditions for Angola’s future competitiveness and digital independence,” said Maria Miguel Pinto, Raxio Angola’s general manager.
Building Africa’s cloud future
Founded in 2018, Raxio Group has established itself as Africa’s leading carrier-neutral Tier III operator, providing colocation, cross-connects, fiber access, and IT infrastructure.
Its facilities form a backbone for Africa’s digital economy, supporting cloud providers, enterprises, and network operators with secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
With its Angola launch, Raxio is betting on the country’s growing appetite for cloud services, fintech innovation, and e-commerce platforms.
The project not only strengthens Angola’s role in Africa’s digital future but also underscores how international and regional players are racing to meet the continent’s rising demand for data capacity.
