Ownership and origins of Tourvest
Tourvest’s roots trace back to a 1997 consolidation of established tourism companies and its subsequent listing on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange.
In 2008 it was acquired by a Black Economic Empowerment consortium that included the Industrial Development Corporation, Old Mutual and TVT Africa Tourism Holdings, a vehicle controlled by Guma Group, the diversified industrial group chaired by South African entrepreneur Robert Gumede.

Under Gumede’s stewardship as Chairman, Tourvest has evolved into a truly global player with operations in Southern, East and West Africa. In addition Tourvest’s footholds in the United Kingdom, Europe, India and the Caribbean.
The company’s high-touch travel services division manages business and leisure itineraries through digital platforms and bespoke solutions, serving millions of travellers and corporate clients.

Tourvest’s business divisions
Tourvest’s destination management arm is a key driver of inbound tourism to Africa, curating bespoke travel experiences for source markets across Europe, North America and Asia. However, its accommodations division operates respected brands including aha Hotels & Lodges and Wild Horizons safari lodges.
The group’s travel retail and duty-free business has also carved a niche, providing airport retail and inflight services, recently expanding through strategic partnerships with global names like Lagardère Travel Retail to elevate traveler experiences and capture growing duty-free spending.
