Set deep within the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary, Chui Lodge offers a rare sense of seclusion. The property sits in a fully private conservancy, with just eight cottages spread across manicured gardens that open onto the bush. The scale is deliberate. Days move at an unhurried pace, shaped by birdsong, passing wildlife and long views across the Rift Valley escarpment.
Zwager’s vision, crafted from sanctuary materials
The lodge reflects the vision of founder June Zwager, working closely with local craftsmen. Structures are raised from bush stone and native woods—acacia, olive and leleshwa—sourced within the sanctuary.
Furniture is made by hand in an on-site workshop, giving each space its own character without excess. The result is refined but grounded, designed to sit lightly on the land.

Boutique cottages, garden-led dining
Chui Lodge has five standard bandas and three larger deluxe cottages. Each has an en-suite bathroom, a private veranda and wide views over the sanctuary. Interiors feature four-poster king-size beds carved from olive wood, fireplaces for cool evenings and individual décor so no two rooms feel the same.
The deluxe cottages add separate lounge areas for guests who want more space. Tea and coffee stations and mini-bars are restocked daily.
Meals are prepared by trained chefs with a focus on fresh ingredients, many drawn from the lodge’s organic vegetable garden and dairy.
Guests can dine beneath acacia trees near the waterhole, by the fire indoors, or under the stars with candlelight and the distant calls of hyenas. The setting changes, but the emphasis remains simple, well-executed food.

Game drives, lakes, easy access
Activities are shaped around each guest. Guided day and night game drives explore Oserengoni, often ending with a sundowner. Other options include boat trips on Lake Naivasha, guided bush walks, bush breakfasts, and candlelit dinners set deep in the conservancy. Day excursions to Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita and Eburru Forest are easily arranged.
Chui Lodge is about a two to two-and-a-half-hour drive from Nairobi on a fully paved road. Flights from Wilson Airport take roughly 20 minutes to Loldia Airstrip, followed by a short road transfer. Private charters can also land on the lodge’s own airstrip.
