Ninety-One increases Resilient REIT stake to $212 million

Ninety-One, an Anglo-South African independent asset management firm, has deepened its investment in Resilient REIT, the retail and logistics-focused property group led by South African tycoon Des de Beer, after increasing stakes about 11%.

The move announced today in a regulatory disclosure has lifted Ninety-One’s position in Resilient REIT to the second biggest shareholder and highlights its renewed confidence in the Sandton-based company. It also signals continued institutional interest in South Africa’s property sector, particularly in established firms like Resilient.

Ninety-One expands Resilient ownership
A regulatory filing on Feb. 16 showed that Ninety-One lifted its stake in the Johannesburg-listed real estate investment trust (REIT) from 5% as of Jan. 3 2025, to 10.806% as of writing, raising its stake from less than $70 million to 39,441,900 ordinary shares now worth R3.39 billion($211.89 million).

Ninety-One, which oversees more than $200 billion in assets under management, has reported steady growth in recent quarters. As of Sept. 30, 2025, assets under management stood at £152.1 billion ($201.69 billion), up from £139.7 billion ($185.23 billion) as of June 30, 2025 and £127.4 billion ($168.97 billion) as of Sept. 30 2024.

Ninety-One strengthens its role in South Africa
Founded in 2002 by Barry Stuhler and Des de Beer, Resilient has grown into a top player in South Africa’s real estate sector. It manages 27 shopping centers across the country with 1.2 million square meters of lettable space, giving it a major presence in both retail and logistics.

With over $200 billion in AUM, Ninety One cements its position among the largest independent asset managers operating in both developed and emerging markets, underscoring a turnaround in investor sentiment and a favorable policy environment in its core regions.
