The Ascott Limited, a Singapore-based lodging owner-operator and subsidiary of CapitaLand Investment, has signed an agreement to develop Citadines Westview Nairobi, a 160-key property in the Kilimani district.

The project expands the company’s footprint in Kenya’s capital and adds to its dual-brand hospitality presence in the city.

The new development will sit alongside Somerset Westview Nairobi serviced apartments, forming a combined accommodation offering for both short-stay and extended-stay guests. Opening is planned for the first quarter of 2028.

Growing demand in Nairobi’s hotel market

Nairobi continues to draw interest from international investors as a regional business center, supported by steady corporate activity, new infrastructure projects and improved air links. This has lifted demand for flexible accommodation that can serve business travelers and longer-stay visitors.

Ascott said the latest signing builds on its existing operations in Kenya and reflects its focus on cities where demand for professionally managed lodging remains steady. The company has been gradually increasing its presence in the market through partnerships and new developments.

Ascott expands Africa to 2028 pipeline

The Nairobi project is part of Ascott’s broader expansion across Africa, where it has secured 10 new signings in the past year. The company expects its regional pipeline to grow from two operating properties to 23 properties, with more than 2,800 units across 10 cities in eight countries by 2028.

Beyond Kenya, Ascott is also expanding in Morocco, Nigeria and Ethiopia. In Addis Ababa, the group has outlined plans for two additional properties as it deepens its presence in East Africa.

Vincent Miccolis, managing director for Middle East, Africa and Türkiye at The Ascott Limited, said Nairobi remains a key market for the group.

“Nairobi is one of Africa’s key commercial and lifestyle hubs, supported by strong underlying demand for accommodation,” he said. “This signing strengthens our commitment to Kenya and reflects our continued focus on cities with consistent demand from both business and leisure guests.

Working with Britam allows us to combine institutional investment with our operating experience, and the Citadines and Somerset brands give us flexibility to serve different types of travelers while maintaining service standards.”

Ascott Britam partnership targets Nairobi demand

The development is being delivered in partnership with Britam Holdings PLC, which is providing the real estate backing for the project. Both companies say the aim is to deliver a property aligned with shifting travel patterns and demand for managed accommodation.

Britam chief executive officer and principal officer Ambrose Dabani said the investment reflects confidence in Nairobi’s long-term growth as a commercial hub.

“We continue to focus on quality assets that can deliver steady value over time,” he said. “Partnering with Ascott brings together strong property fundamentals and an experienced global operator, which supports the long-term outlook for the development.”
