Gondwana Collection, a premier hospitality group,  is doubling down on Namibia’s fast-rising coastal tourism market, breaking ground on a new luxury development in Walvis Bay that underscores growing investor confidence in the country’s hospitality sector.

The project, named The Admiral, is set along the Esplanade and is scheduled to open in December 2027. The development strengthens the group’s footprint along Namibia’s Atlantic coastline, positioning it to capture rising demand from both leisure and business travelers.

The Admiral Hotel’s Room

Strategic bet on premium coastal tourism

The Admiral will feature 24 high-end suites, including three penthouses, with floor-to-ceiling views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Flamingo Lagoon. Standard suites will span approximately 80 square meters, while penthouses will extend to 110 square meters, aligning with global luxury benchmarks.

Amenities are tailored to hybrid travel trends, including multimedia-equipped meeting rooms, a swimming pool, and a flexible guest lounge designed for both work and relaxation. Its proximity to key infrastructure, including the harbor and airport, adds to its strategic appeal.

The hotel also offers direct access to iconic attractions such as Sandwich Harbour, a growing draw for international tourists seeking unique desert-meets-ocean experiences.

Design meets sustainability

Designed by Namibian architect Conrad Scheffer, the project incorporates a wind-smart façade adapted to coastal conditions, while drawing aesthetic inspiration from luxury yachts. The result is a blend of environmental responsiveness and modern design, hallmarks of Gondwana’s sustainability-driven approach.

Each suite will function as a “smart room,” integrating automated lighting, climate control, and entertainment systems. Layouts include a bedroom, lounge or workspace, kitchenette, and sun lounge, reflecting evolving guest expectations for longer, experience-driven stays.

Scaling a homegrown hospitality leader

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Windhoek, Gondwana Collection Namibia has grown into one of the country’s leading lodge operators, with about 50 properties spanning luxury lodges, boutique stays, and camping sites.

Led by Managing Director Gys Joubert and founder Manni Goldbeck, the company has built its brand around sustainability and local investment. The Admiral signals a strategic shift toward urban-coastal luxury, complementing its traditional nature-based portfolio.

For Namibia, the project reinforces a broader trend: premium hospitality is becoming a key lever for tourism-driven economic growth.
