Technip Energies, one of the leading global engineering and technology companies, has secured a major engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project offshore Mozambique, marking a significant expansion of the country’s emerging role in global gas supply chains.

The contract, awarded under the Eni-led Mozambique Rovuma Venture consortium, strengthens momentum in one of Africa’s most closely watched LNG developments. Coral Norte is designed to deliver about 3.6 million tons per annum (Mtpa) of LNG, effectively doubling the Coral hub’s total production capacity to around 7 Mtpa.

Technip Energies is executing the project alongside partners including JGC Holdings and Samsung Heavy Industries, reinforcing a multi-country industrial collaboration spanning Europe, Japan, and South Korea.

Strategic bet on offshore LNG growth

Chief Executive Arnaud Pieton said the Coral Norte development will accelerate LNG deployment while reinforcing Mozambique’s position as a strategic energy exporter. The project reflects rising global demand for flexible offshore gas infrastructure amid tightening energy markets.

The Coral Norte FLNG facility is part of a broader push by Eni and its partners to monetize Mozambique’s vast Rovuma Basin gas reserves.

The investment decision, backed by partners including China National Petroleum Corporation, Mozambique’s national oil company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, Abu Dhabi’s XRG, and Korea Gas Corp, underscores long-term confidence in the region’s offshore potential.

Technip Energies deepens LNG and energy transition play

Spun off from TechnipFMC in 2021, Technip Energies has positioned itself at the center of global LNG engineering while expanding into hydrogen, CO2 management, and low-carbon technologies. The Paris-listed firm is increasingly bridging traditional fossil fuel infrastructure with energy transition solutions.

The Coral Norte contract, valued at over €1 billion ($1.14 billion), adds to a growing portfolio of large-scale LNG developments across Africa and Asia. The company continues to leverage its offshore FLNG expertise to support complex deepwater gas monetization projects.

Mozambique’s rising energy corridor

Mozambique’s offshore gas sector is emerging as a critical supply node for global LNG markets, with Coral Norte representing one of its most advanced developments. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance export capacity and strengthen long-term energy partnerships between Africa and global energy majors.
