Minbos Resources, an Australian-based exploration and development company, has signed a $13.8 million Phase 2 construction contract that pushes its flagship phosphate fertilizer project in Angola into its final build stage, marking a significant milestone for one of the country’s most strategic mining and agriculture investments.

The agreement with Portuguese-Angolan engineering and construction group Grupo Arliz covers the remaining works required to bring the Cabinda Phosphate Fertilizer Plant to dry commissioning.

The scope includes structural steel installation, mechanical works, electrical systems, instrumentation and advanced process control technologies designed to prepare the facility for production.

Funding package strengthens project delivery

The contract follows the first drawdown from financing secured through the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa and a newly signed term sheet with Banco de Fomento Angola, strengthening the capital structure required to complete the project.

The latest award signals the transition from civil engineering works to full-scale plant construction. Earlier works delivered by Grupo Arliz included access roads, drainage infrastructure, foundations and concrete platforms necessary for the next stage of development.

Early procurement reduces cost risks

The fertilizer plant, designed by U.S.-based processing specialist FEECO International, was shipped to Angola in 2023 as part of an early procurement strategy aimed at reducing exposure to global inflationary pressures and supply-chain disruptions.

Chief Executive Officer Rob Newbold described the agreement as a defining moment for both the company and Angola’s industrial ambitions.

“With civil works complete, we are now entering the final build phase. The plant is already on site, funding is being deployed and construction can progress toward dry commissioning,” Newbold said.

He added that the project significantly lowers execution risks while bringing Angola closer to domestic fertilizer production capacity.

Supporting agriculture and food security

Once operational, the integrated project will combine the Cácata phosphate mine with the Cabinda Phosphate Fertilizer Plant, creating Angola’s first integrated phosphate mining and fertilizer production operation.

Minbos Resources is an Australian exploration and development company advancing integrated fertilizer supply and nutrient distribution operations in Angola, positioning itself to support the country’s agricultural growth, food security goals and expanding agribusiness sector.

Headquartered in Australia, Minbos aligns its operations with environmental, social and governance standards promoted by the World Economic Forum while maintaining governance practices consistent with the requirements of the Australian Securities Exchange.
