Zanzibar’s tourism ambitions received another boost after the unveiling of the $70 million NH Collection Pemba Wellness Resort, a luxury development that signals rising investor confidence in Tanzania’s high-end hospitality market.

Developed by Infinity Developments, the project adds a flagship asset to the company’s expanding Zanzibar portfolio, which now carries a gross development value exceeding $600 million.

Located along the pristine coastline of Pemba Island, the resort is designed as an integrated wellness destination combining luxury accommodation, preventive healthcare and sustainable living.

The development reflects a broader shift in global tourism demand as affluent travelers increasingly seek destinations centered on wellbeing, longevity and nature-based experiences.

Luxury meets preventive healthcare

Designed by Beyond Design, the resort will feature 171 accommodation units, including 140 suites, private villas and forest residences, all equipped with private pools and positioned to maximize views of the Indian Ocean and Pemba’s tropical landscape.

At the heart of the project sits a comprehensive wellness and medical pavilion that blends hospitality with advanced healthcare services.

Facilities include spa treatment suites, hammams, saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis and salt caves, alongside specialized offerings such as cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, IV therapy, rehabilitation studios and aesthetic treatment rooms.

The concept places the resort among a growing class of luxury wellness destinations emerging across Africa to capture rising international demand for preventive healthcare travel.

Infrastructure expansion fuels investor interest

The investment arrives as Pemba Island gains momentum from major infrastructure projects initiated by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, including expanded road networks and the ongoing reconstruction of Pemba Airport.

Improved connectivity is expected to support higher visitor volumes and strengthen the island’s position within the Indian Ocean tourism market.

Positioning Pemba for premium tourism

Infinity Developments Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Samuel Saba said the project reflects confidence in Zanzibar’s long-term tourism strategy and its ambition to attract high-value travelers.

Beyond accommodation, the resort will offer beachfront restaurants, destination dining experiences, rooftop lounges, infinity pools, fitness centers, padel courts, basketball facilities and cycling trails integrated into the surrounding landscape.

As global wellness tourism continues to outperform traditional leisure travel, NH Collection Pemba Wellness Resort could become one of East Africa’s most significant luxury hospitality developments and further cement Zanzibar’s status as a premium destination for international travelers.
