Kenyan billionaire Chris Kirubi’s heiress and HACO Industries Kenya Managing Director Mary-Ann Musangi has been elected vice chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) for a two-year term, marking a significant leadership shift within one of the country’s most influential industry bodies.

Mary-Ann Musangi, who currently chairs KAM’s Women in Manufacturing Programme, has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in the sector. Through leadership development, mentorship, and skills training, she has played a pivotal role in advancing gender inclusion across Kenya’s manufacturing landscape.

Mary-Ann Musangi pointment comes as PG Bison Kenya Managing Director Hitesh Mediratta assumes the role of KAM chairperson. Mediratta succeeds East African Breweries Group Managing Director Jane Karuku, who has completed her tenure and will continue serving on the KAM Board as an ex-officio member.

Mediratta’s leadership agenda
Speaking after his election, Mediratta emphasized the need to strengthen local manufacturing amid shifting global dynamics, noting that evolving trade patterns and supply chain disruptions present opportunities for Kenya and the broader African continent.

“While global uncertainties continue to shape trade, supply chains and global investment shifts, they also present an opportunity for Kenya and Africa to strengthen regional value chains, increase local value addition and unlock the full potential of manufacturing as a driver of economic growth and industrialisation,” he said.

“My priority will be to build on KAM’s strong legacy of advocacy by creating a level playing field that enhances the competitiveness of Kenyan manufacturers both locally and globally. We shall continue to champion equitable value chains where all manufacturers have an opportunity to compete, grow and thrive.”

A seasoned industry leader, Mediratta has led PG Bison Kenya for more than two decades. His long-standing involvement with KAM includes prior roles as vice chairperson, Board director, and chair of the Timber and Furniture Sector, as well as vice chair of the association’s Trade and Tax Board Committee.

Musangi’s expanding influence
Mary-Ann Musangi’s elevation to KAM’s top leadership tier further reinforces her growing influence in Kenya’s corporate and industrial landscape. Beyond her role at HACO Industries, she oversees the Kirubi family estate following the passing of her father, business tycoon Chris Kirubi.

In this capacity, she manages a diverse investment portfolio spanning Centum Investment Plc, KCB Group, HACO Industries, and Capital Media Group, among others.

Her new role at KAM is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to drive inclusive industrial growth, while supporting policy advocacy aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and resilience of Kenya’s manufacturing sector.
