Fawry for Banking Technology and Electronic Payments, the Cairo-based digital payments platform led by tycoon Ashraf Sabry, has secured an EGP550 million ($11 million) financing facility from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) to expand lending to small businesses across the country.

The facility, announced on July 16, 2026, is part of a broader initiative by Egypt’s Ministry of Finance to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and accelerate their integration into the formal economy.

Fawry expands access to SME financing

The funding package includes EGP300 million ($5.87 million) dedicated to micro enterprises and EGP250 million ($4.89 million) allocated to small and medium-sized businesses. The financing is expected to help Fawry deepen its reach across key sectors while offering tailored credit solutions to underserved entrepreneurs.

Through its digital lending platform, Egypt’s leading fintech platform, Fawry will deploy the funds using data-driven credit assessment tools, enabling faster and more accessible financing for businesses seeking working capital or expansion support.

CEO Ashraf Sabry highlights financial inclusion push

Ashraf Sabry, Chief Executive Officer of Fawry, said the agreement strengthens the company’s partnership with MSMEDA and aligns with its long-term strategy.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with MSMEDA through these new financing facilities, which reflect our shared commitment to supporting Egypt’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and expanding financial inclusion,” Sabry said.

He added that the initiative will allow Fawry to scale its digital lending services nationwide, helping businesses grow, improve productivity, and create jobs.

Supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals

The financing aligns with Egypt Vision 2030, which focuses on sustainable economic development and increased financial inclusion. It also supports government efforts to formalize informal businesses, enabling them to access structured financial services and regulatory incentives.

Founded in 2008, Fawry has grown into Egypt’s largest digital financial services platform, processing more than 6 million transactions daily through a network of over 377,000 agents and serving approximately 54.8 million monthly users.

As demand for digital financial services continues to rise, the new funding positions Fawry to play a larger role in empowering small businesses and driving inclusive economic growth across Egypt.
