When Nigerian billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu first articulated the concept of Africapitalism, he set out a different vision for how private enterprise could drive Africa’s economic development. At its core was a simple belief: patient capital, backed by disciplined execution, can build strong businesses while creating jobs, expanding access to essential services and supporting long-term economic growth.

That philosophy is increasingly reflected in the performance of Heirs Holdings’ portfolio companies. Three of the group’s businesses—Transcorp Group, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Redtech—have earned places on major international rankings compiled by The Africa Report and CNBC, reinforcing the group’s growing presence across power, technology and financial services.

Transcorp, AEDC named top business champions

In The Africa Report’s 2026 500 Business Champions ranking, which recognises Africa’s leading companies, Transcorp Group and AEDC were named among the continent’s top corporate performers. The recognition reflects their financial results, operational execution and continued investment in strengthening power and infrastructure across Africa despite a challenging business environment.

Redtech also received international recognition after being named to the Payments category of CNBC and Statista’s 2026 World’s Top Fintech Companies ranking. Chosen from more than 3,500 fintech companies worldwide, Redtech was one of only 11 African firms included among the 500 companies recognised globally. The ranking highlights the company’s role in expanding digital payment infrastructure and supporting the growing adoption of electronic transactions across Africa.

Tony Elumelu’s multi-sector strategy gains market recognition

The latest honours follow another strong showing earlier this year. In the Financial Times’ 2026 ranking of Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies, three Heirs Holdings portfolio companies—Heirs Life Assurance, Heirs General Insurance, both members of Heirs Insurance Group, and Redtech—were recognised for their sustained business growth.

Taken together, the rankings reflect the scale of a diversified investment group with a portfolio valued at N20.9 trillion ($15.08 billion) as of March 31, 2026 under the leadership of Tony Elumelu. Heirs Holdings operates in 24 countries, with investments spanning power, energy, banking, insurance and financial services, technology, hospitality, real estate and healthcare.

The recognition also reinforces the investment approach that has guided the group for years. By combining long-term capital with focused operational improvements, Heirs Holdings has continued to strengthen businesses across multiple industries while supporting broader economic development and creating lasting value for investors and the communities in which it operates.
