Lake Victoria Gold has taken another step toward bringing its Imwelo gold project into production after beginning Phase 1 earthworks at the fully permitted mine in Tanzania.

The work marks the start of on-site construction and comes as the project’s construction camp nears completion, moving the Canadian miner from planning to physical development.

The first phase includes upgrades to the existing access road and preparation of the processing plant site.

Those activities will provide the infrastructure needed for the next stage of construction.

The latest progress comes as Tanzania continues to attract investment in its mining industry, with developers pushing ahead on projects aimed at increasing gold production and supporting economic growth.

Site work moves ahead

Earthmoving equipment has been mobilized to carry out road improvements and prepare the plant-site footprint.

Lake Victoria Gold said materials for the work are being sourced in coordination with the relevant Tanzanian authorities.

The construction camp is also nearing completion. Water storage and power systems have been installed, plumbing has been finished, electrical work is advancing and accommodation units are being fitted out.

The camp will later serve as part of the permanent mine site, reducing the need for additional construction.

Local partnership supports development

The project is being delivered under an engineering, procurement and construction management structure led by City Engineering Company, a Tanzanian-owned contractor.

Sutton Consulting International is providing technical support, while Lake Victoria Gold’s on-site team is coordinating contractors, equipment and construction activities.

Near-term work will focus on completing the camp, advancing access road upgrades, preparing the plant pad, stripping topsoil, building berms and continuing engineering and procurement work.

Lake Victoria Gold is a Canadian gold exploration and development company focused on Tanzania’s Lake Victoria Goldfields.

Its portfolio includes the fully permitted Imwelo project and other exploration assets located near several established gold mines in the region.
