Paddy Zhanda, a Zimbabwean investor and dealmaker, is quietly building a multimillion-dollar empire anchored by his stake in Masimba Holdings. While he maintains a low public profile, Zhanda has become a powerful force in Zimbabwe’s capital markets, leveraging strategic acquisitions, layered ownership structures, and long-term sector positioning to grow his wealth.

His rise reflects a disciplined investment strategy increasingly seen among Africa’s high-net-worth individuals—acquiring undervalued assets, consolidating influence, and scaling through capital markets rather than operational visibility.

Zhanda’s defining moment came when he joined a consortium that acquired a controlling stake in Murray & Roberts Zimbabwe at a discounted valuation. Through Zumbani Capital (Private) Limited, an investment consortium led by Zhanda and Canada Malunga, alongside partners Samuel Sithole and Malcolm William McCulloch, the group now holds a 29.17% stake in Masimba Holdings, equivalent to 69.83 million shares. This stake is currently valued at about ZWD180.6 million ($7 million).

The acquisition ultimately transformed the business into Masimba Holdings, repositioning it as a locally driven construction and engineering company. This deal not only marked a turning point in Zimbabwe’s infrastructure sector but also established Zhanda as a key shareholder in one of the country’s most strategic companies.

Masimba holdings drives his wealth

Today, Masimba Holdings operates across construction, mining support services, agriculture, and real estate development. Through this single equity position, Zhanda gains diversified exposure to multiple real-economy sectors tied to long-term infrastructure demand in Zimbabwe.

Beyond Masimba, Zhanda has expanded his investment footprint through a significant stake in Proplastics, a listed manufacturer supplying piping and plastic products essential to construction and infrastructure development. His role as a non-executive director allows him to influence strategic direction while remaining removed from day-to-day operations.

The relationship between Masimba and Proplastics creates a layered investment structure, where Zhanda benefits both directly and indirectly from growth across interconnected sectors. This approach, more common among institutional investors, amplifies returns while strengthening market positioning.

Strategic investments across key sectors

Zhanda has also moved into agriculture through Aurora Agricultural Ventures & Processors, signaling a strategic shift toward land-backed assets and food production. In Zimbabwe’s volatile economic environment, such investments provide both a hedge against inflation and a stable long-term value store.

At the center of his investment network is Amalgamated African Ventures, his private investment vehicle. The firm serves as the core platform through which Zhanda executes deals, manages ownership structures, and allocates capital across sectors. This centralized structure provides flexibility while enabling him to scale efficiently across public and private markets.

Unlike many high-profile African entrepreneurs, Zhanda operates quietly, avoiding media attention and public exposure. Much of his portfolio remains privately held, and disclosures are limited, placing him among a class of investors whose influence significantly outweighs their visibility.

Quiet strategy behind growing empire

However, the trajectory of his wealth is closely tied to Zimbabwe’s infrastructure growth. As demand for construction, mining support services, and real estate development continues to rise, Masimba Holdings remains well positioned to capture long-term expansion. For Zhanda, this creates a compounding effect, where strategic positioning today translates into exponential value over time.

In a business environment often dominated by founders and public personalities, Paddy Zhanda represents a different model of wealth creation: the quiet dealmaker. One who builds not by launching new ventures, but by acquiring, structuring, and scaling existing ones.

Through disciplined execution and strategic foresight, Zhanda is steadily shaping one of Zimbabwe’s most understated business empires.
