Datatec, a leading technology and ICT solutions group based in Johannesburg and led by South African businessman Jens Montanana, has strengthened its cybersecurity capabilities with the acquisition of U.S.-based technology firm Loial through its subsidiary, Logicalis USA.

The deal, which became effective on July 31, 2026, marks a strategic move to deepen Logicalis USA’s presence in the Southwest region while establishing a permanent operational base in New Mexico.

Strengthening cybersecurity capabilities

Loial, a New Mexico-based technology solutions provider, brings deep expertise in cybersecurity and managed services, with a strong focus on helping organizations modernize security operations and improve visibility across complex IT environments.

The company is also a recognized partner of Splunk, delivering advanced data analytics and security solutions across industries such as energy, utilities, government, and healthcare. Its capabilities are expected to enhance Logicalis USA’s ability to provide end-to-end cybersecurity services at a time of rising global demand for digital resilience.

Datatec CEO Jens Montanana welcomed the acquisition, noting its strategic importance to the group’s long-term growth ambitions. “We are pleased to welcome the Loial team to the Group. Loial brings deep cybersecurity expertise and long-standing customer relationships across multiple vertical markets, and extends Logicalis USA’s presence into New Mexico, an important market that supports the division’s long-term growth strategy,” he said.

Logicalis USA deepens regional presence

The acquisition not only expands Logicalis USA’s cybersecurity offering but also strengthens its geographic footprint in the United States. By entering New Mexico, the company positions itself closer to key public and private sector clients in a region experiencing growing demand for secure digital infrastructure.

The move aligns with Datatec’s broader strategy of scaling its global ICT capabilities through targeted acquisitions that enhance both technical expertise and regional market access.

Strategic growth without shareholder approval requirement

Despite its strategic significance, the transaction does not meet the thresholds required for categorization under the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Listings Requirements. As a result, the deal was executed without the need for shareholder approval and was disclosed on a voluntary basis.

What’s next for Datatec?

Founded in 1986, Datatec is a leading provider of ICT solutions, focusing on software and cloud services, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). Under the leadership of Montanana, Datatec, with footprints in over 50 countries, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, has evolved into a global ICT solutions provider with operations spanning multiple continents, offering services in integration, managed services, and cybersecurity through its subsidiaries, including Logicalis.

The addition of Loial is expected to accelerate growth in high-demand cybersecurity segments, particularly in North America, where enterprises and government institutions continue to increase investments in digital protection and data visibility. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, Datatec’s expanded capabilities through Logicalis USA position the group to capitalize on the growing need for secure, scalable, and intelligent IT solutions.
