Tanzania and Eswatini are looking to expand trade, investment and tourism as the two countries seek to turn their longstanding diplomatic relationship into closer economic cooperation.

The push came during talks between Tanzania’s newly accredited Ambassador to Eswatini, CP Hamad Khamis Hamad, and King Mswati III at Lozitha Palace in Ezulwini. The two sides discussed ways to increase business links while broadening cooperation in agriculture, education, health, culture and human capital development.

Ambassador Hamad, who is based in Maputo, Mozambique, presented his credentials to King Mswati III and conveyed greetings from President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He said Tanzania remained committed to strengthening relations with Eswatini and creating more opportunities for businesses in both countries.

Trade and investment take center stage

Hamad said greater private-sector participation would be important to expanding bilateral trade and investment. He also pointed to the African Continental Free Trade Area as an opportunity for companies in Tanzania and Eswatini to reach wider African markets.

The ambassador said the two countries would also continue working through the Southern African Development Community, African Union and Commonwealth to support regional integration, peace, security and economic development.

Tourism and business links

King Mswati III welcomed Hamad and said Eswatini valued its relationship with Tanzania, built on African solidarity, mutual respect and shared interests. He pledged his government’s support for the ambassador as he began his assignment.

The King said Eswatini was ready to deepen cooperation in tourism, trade, investment, education, culture and human development. Both sides also backed more high-level visits and stronger links between government institutions and private companies.

Building on a long-standing relationship

Tanzania and Eswatini have maintained diplomatic ties based on cooperation within African and regional institutions. The latest talks are aimed at expanding those links into areas that can support trade, investment and opportunities for citizens.

The two countries said closer cooperation could help businesses enter new markets, attract investment and strengthen economic ties while delivering practical benefits for people in both nations.
