Abu Dhabi’s HEA Energy acquires two jackup crane vessels from Denmark

Abu Dhabi-based HEA Energy has acquired two jackup vessels from Danish contractor Semco Maritime as demand grows for specialist services supporting offshore wind farms across Europe. 

The deal covers the Thor and Wind Lift 1, two vessels that can be used for major component exchange, maintenance and overhaul work on offshore wind turbines. The companies did not disclose the financial terms. 

HEA Energy will own the vessels under a long-term arrangement that allows Semco Maritime to continue using them.

The deal gives the Danish company access to the vessels while expanding HEA Energy’s presence in the European offshore wind market. 

The partnership comes as offshore wind developers face a growing need to maintain and replace large turbine components at sea.

The companies said they will work together on projects involving developers including Ørsted, RWE and Equinor.

Emden facility to support offshore wind work 

Semco Maritime’s facility in Emden, Germany, will play a key role in the partnership.

The site has a 450-ton gantry crane and direct access to the North Sea, making it suitable for handling large wind turbine components and supporting offshore projects. 

The facility will support refurbishment, overhaul and logistics work, allowing components to be prepared onshore before being moved to offshore wind farms.

That setup could help the companies respond to maintenance and major repair work across the North Sea.

HEA Energy expands European offshore reach 

Jonas Munch Agerskov, CEO of HEA Energy Europe, said the deal combines Semco Maritime’s technical expertise and customer relationships with HEA Energy’s maritime capabilities.

He described the agreement as the start of a long-term relationship between the companies. 

HEA Energy is an offshore marine solutions company with experience in jackup barges, accommodation vessels and maritime services.

Semco Maritime provides engineering, construction, operations and maintenance services across the energy sector, with offshore wind now a major part of its business.
