Ghana-focused gold producer Asante Gold Corporation has secured an additional month to arrange new financing after its senior lenders and hedge counterparties agreed to extend key deadlines under its Senior Facilities Agreement.

The Vancouver-based gold company, which operates the Bibiani and Chirano gold mines in Ghana, said the deadlines for securing at least $100 million in aggregate new funding and delivering a cost-to-complete certificate have both been extended to September 30, 2026.

The extension gives Asante additional time to negotiate new financing or amendments to its existing facilities as it seeks to strengthen its balance sheet while limiting further dilution for shareholders.

Asante extends financing deadlines

Under waiver arrangements previously agreed with its senior lenders, Asante Gold was required to secure at least $100 million in new funding by August 31, 2026, including an additional requirement to deliver a cost-to-complete certificate to its senior lenders by August 20.

Following discussions with its financing partners, both deadlines have now been extended to September 30. Asante Gold said the extension provides additional flexibility as it continues discussions regarding new financing and potential amendments to its existing financing arrangements.

The company is seeking a capital solution that provides additional funding while minimizing the need to issue new equity and dilute existing shareholders.

Financing strategy remains focused on limiting dilution

Asante Gold said it remains encouraged by constructive discussions with its lenders, hedge counterparties and other key stakeholders. However, the company cautioned that there is no certainty over the structure, timing or terms of any future financing, or that any particular financing alternative will ultimately be completed.

The latest extension therefore gives Asante Gold additional time to pursue its broader financing strategy without confirming that the required capital has already been secured. The company said it will continue to update the market as developments occur.

Ghana operations anchor Asante’s portfolio

Asante operates the Bibiani and Chirano gold mines in Ghana, giving it exposure to two of the country’s established gold-producing corridors. Bibiani is an operating open-pit gold mine on the Sefwi-Bibiani Gold Belt in Ghana’s Western North Region. The mine has a history of more than 4.5 million ounces of gold production and includes a refurbished processing plant and associated mining infrastructure.

Expansion and funding remain key watchpoints

Asante Gold Corporation, a growing mid-tier gold producer, developer and explorer with a high-quality portfolio of assets located on two of West Africa’s most prolific and prospective gold belts in Ghana, began mining at Bibiani in February 2022 and announced commercial production in November of the same year. Chirano, an operating open-pit and underground mine in Ghana’s Western Region, was first explored and developed in 1996 and began production in October 2005. The mine has produced more than 3 million ounces of gold, and Asante acquired the operation in August 2022.

Beyond its producing assets, Asante is advancing the Kubi Gold Project on Ghana’s Ashanti Gold Belt while maintaining an extensive exploration position across the Sefwi-Bibiani Gold Belt.

The company’s immediate priority, however, remains securing the additional capital required under its financing arrangements.

The September 30 deadline will therefore be a key milestone for investors, with the outcome of Asante’s financing discussions likely to determine its capital structure, liquidity position and ability to advance its broader growth strategy. While management has indicated a preference for financing options that minimize shareholder dilution, the company has cautioned that there is no assurance that its preferred capital solution will be completed on the expected terms or within the extended timeframe.
