MNT-Halan, Egypt’s fintech unicorn founded by Egyptian entrepreneur Mounir Nakhla, has secured a commitment of up to $38.2 million from Commercial International Bank (CIB) as it prepares for its proposed listing on the Egyptian Exchange, adding one of the country’s largest private-sector banks as a cornerstone investor.

CIB has committed up to EGP2 billion ($38.15 million) to purchase shares in the international portion of MNT-Halan’s proposed offering, strengthening the fintech’s investor base ahead of its planned entry into Egypt’s capital markets.

MNT-Halan draws CIB backing

According to the agreement, CIB entered into a cornerstone investment agreement with MNT Tech Holding for Financial Investments and MNT Investments B.V. on September 24, 2026.

Under the agreement, CIB will participate in the international offering forming part of MNT Halan’s proposed transaction, with an aggregate investment commitment of up to EGP2 billion.

The commitment remains subject to the terms and conditions of the cornerstone investment agreement and the offering documents to be published by MNT-Halan.

Fintech unicorn expands financial services

Founded in 2018, MNT-Halan has built a technology-driven financial services platform aimed at expanding access to credit and other financial products in Egypt.

The company provides business and consumer loans, prepaid cards, e-wallets, investment products and e-commerce services through its Halan app and nationwide physical network.

Its proposed Egyptian Exchange listing comes as the company seeks to advance its next phase of growth and deepen its position in Egypt’s rapidly evolving non-bank financial services sector.

CIB strengthens MNT-Halan relationship

CIB’s investment also reinforces a longstanding relationship between the bank and MNT-Halan.

The bank said its participation reflects its support for leading Egyptian companies and its continued presence across financial services and capital markets. It also highlighted the growing role of non-bank financial services in providing financing to the Egyptian economy alongside traditional banking.

Mounir Nakhla, founder and chief executive of MNT-Halan, said CIB has been part of the company’s journey for more than 15 years and that its market experience would support the fintech as it enters its next stage.

For MNT-Halan, the cornerstone commitment provides backing from a major Egyptian financial institution while adding momentum to its proposed transition from a privately held fintech into a publicly listed company.
