Robin Pope Safaris has opened Kujana Camp in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park, expanding beyond its long-established South Luangwa base as the safari operator marks 40 years in Zambia. The four-tent camp gives the company a new foothold in one of the country’s most scenic and wildlife-rich wilderness areas.

A new lower Zambezi base

Named after the Tonga word for “to find” or “to discover,” Kujana sits overlooking the Discovery Channel in the national park. Its intimate design, water views and access to surrounding wilderness position the camp for travelers seeking a quieter safari experience, with the Zambezi and escarpment providing a distinctive natural setting.

The Lower Zambezi is also a draw for birdwatchers, with more than 350 recorded species, while its varied landscape offers strong opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing. Guests can choose from game drives, walking safaris, boating, catch-and-release fishing and birdwatching, depending on conditions and individual interests.

Building beyond South Luangwa

Kujana will operate seasonally from May through Nov. 15, adding another destination to Robin Pope Safaris’ Zambia circuit. The camp also allows travelers to combine a Lower Zambezi stay with the company’s properties in South Luangwa and extend their safari itineraries across other destinations in the region.

Robin Pope Safaris began operating in Zambia in 1986 with Tena Tena, its original camp in South Luangwa. Four decades later, the company has expanded its operations beyond that base into Malawi and Zimbabwe, making Kujana a notable step into another of Zambia’s premier safari regions.

The opening comes as demand for intimate, experience-led safari stays continues to shape Africa’s luxury tourism market. For Robin Pope Safaris, Kujana broadened its portfolio while building on four decades of operating in Zambia, giving returning guests another way to explore the country’s rivers, wildlife and wilderness.
