Airtel Money, the mobile financial services subsidiary of Airtel Africa, is scheduled to begin unconditional trading on the London Stock Exchange on October 14, 2026, as the fintech business prepares for an independent listing amid investor scrutiny over its valuation.

In an October 9 announcement, Airtel Africa said conditional dealings in Airtel Money shares were expected to begin at 8 a.m. London time on October 9, ahead of admission to the exchange’s Main Market and the commencement of unconditional trading is expected to begin on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) at 8.00 a.m. on October 14 2026.

The proposed listing is designed to give Airtel Money an independent market valuation and strengthen its access to capital markets as demand for digital payments and financial inclusion services expands across Africa.

Airtel Africa retains stake in fintech business

Airtel Africa confirmed it would not sell existing shares in Airtel Money as part of the offering, positioning the telecommunications group as a long-term strategic shareholder in the fintech business. The final offer details followed confirmation of the offer price on October 1 by Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., the entity behind Airtel Money.

However, the planned transaction has faced valuation pressure. According to the information provided, Airtel Money is considering reducing its London offering target to at least $800 million after institutional investors pushed back against the proposed valuation. The reported revision would represent a substantial reduction from its initial fundraising ambitions.

The proposed transaction had been expected to value Airtel Money at approximately $8 billion to $9 billion, although the final valuation and offering terms should be confirmed against the company’s official disclosures.

IFC backs Airtel Money expansion

In September, the International Finance Corporation, the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, agreed to invest up to £67.2 million ($90 million) in Airtel Mobile Commerce as a cornerstone investor in the proposed listing.

The investment would strengthen institutional backing for the fintech business as it seeks to expand digital financial services and deepen its presence across African markets.

Mobile money drives Airtel Africa growth

Airtel Africa, backed by Indian billionaire Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Bharti Airtel, provides telecommunications and mobile financial services across 14 sub-Saharan African countries, serving 183.5 million subscribers, according to the supplied information.

Airtel Money enables customers to transfer funds, pay utility bills and purchase airtime through mobile devices, serving consumers and businesses in markets where access to conventional banking remains limited.

The listing marks a significant step in the fintech unit’s development, with investors weighing its growth potential against valuation concerns and broader market uncertainty. Airtel Africa’s decision to retain its stake would also preserve its exposure to the expansion of digital financial services across the continent.
