OUTsurance profit growth boosts Visser’s pay above $5 million
Marthinus Visser’s compensation for the 2026 financial year reached R83.12 million ($5.04 million), a substantial 57.06% increase from the R52.92 million ($3.21 million) he received the previous year.

Long-term incentives drove the increase, rising from R54.27 million ($3.29 million) to R66.93 million ($4.06 million), reflecting the value of performance-linked awards amid OUTsurance Group’s strong financial performance. The insurer reported a net profit which rose by 28.41% from R5.22 billion ($316.22 million) to R6.18 billion ($374.45 million), alongside an 18.5% increase in normalised earnings to R5.61 billion for the year ended June 2026.

Compensation driven by performance incentives
Marthinus Visser’s 2026 compensation package comprised a base salary of R8.07 million ($488,971) and a performance-based short-term incentive of R8.11 million ($491,508), both attributed to OUTsurance Group’s impressive financial performance.

He also received a long-term incentive award of R66.93 million ($4.06 million) from the licensed non-life and Financial Services Provider in recognition of his strategic leadership, actuarial expertise and nearly three decades of experience in the insurance industry.

Marthinus Visser’s career and leadership at OUTsurance Group
Marthinus Visser joined OUTsurance in 1998 as a senior actuary, bringing expertise in actuarial science, insurance risk management and financial modelling. He progressed through key technical and executive positions, becoming chief actuary in 2001 and group chief actuary in 2008 before being appointed group chief executive officer in January 2018.

Visser’s actuarial background has been central to his leadership, with key strength areas in disciplined risk assessment, underwriting profitability and effective capital management. As CEO, he has overseen a business spanning South Africa, Australia and Ireland, with operations covering motor, property, business and life insurance.

At OUTsurance Group, Marthinus Visser has guided the insurer’s evolution from a South African-focused business into a multinational insurance group with operations in Australia and Ireland. Having joined the company nearly three decades ago and becoming group CEO in 2018, he has overseen its strategic expansion, operational development and focus on underwriting profitability.

Under his leadership, the group delivered earnings growth, supported by its South African operations, while pursuing a corporate restructuring to simplify its ownership structure and consolidate minority interests under its listed parent.

OUTsurance Boosts Revenue and Profit Growth
In 2026, the public financial services and insurance holding company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) delivered strong insurance revenue, reporting a 11.73% rise from R37.13 billion ($2.25 billion) to R41.49 billion ($2.51 billion), lifted by growth in its South African and Australian insurance businesses, supported by higher gross written premiums, strong underwriting performance in South Africa and continued expansion in Australia.

The group’s profit rose 28.41% from R5.22 billion ($316.22 million) to R6.18 billion ($374.45 million), driven by improved claims experience and operating efficiencies that boosted South African insurance earnings. In Australia, premium growth was offset by elevated natural catastrophe claims and adverse compulsory third-party motor claims.

Assets and equity show strong growth

Additionally, OUTsurance Group’s total assets rose 5.62% to R40.82 billion ($2.47 billion) from R38.65 billion ($2.34 billion), while total equity advanced 1.61% to R16.2 billion ($981.43 million) from R15.94 billion ($965.86 million).
