C-Care, a Mauritius-based private healthcare group owned by diversified investment company CIEL, has completed its acquisition of Roswell Women & Children Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, expanding its hospital network and strengthening its specialist healthcare services.

The acquisition, completed on September 8, 2026, adds a 30-bed facility serving more than 30,000 patients annually to C-Care’s Ugandan operations. This expands C-Care’s Ugandan network to six hospitals and 17 clinics, strengthening its capacity to provide specialist medical services in one of East Africa’s largest healthcare markets.

Roswell acquisition strengthens C-Care’s network

Located in Kampala’s Central Business District, Roswell Hospital specialises in women’s health, maternal and child care, gynaecology and fertility services.

It also plans to strengthen the hospital’s operations and upgrade its technology, building on Roswell’s established specialist services to broaden its healthcare offering.

IHK targets 6 healthcare businesses in expansion drive

The Roswell transaction forms part of a broader expansion strategy involving International Hospital Kampala (IHK), the firm’s Ugandan healthcare operation, and six specialist healthcare businesses reportedly associated with Ugandan physician Dr. Malik Ssempereza.

The proposed acquisition portfolio includes Roswell Women & Children Hospital, Roswell Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, Wellington Clinic, Wellington Diabetes and Heart Clinic, and Citadel Holdings, among other healthcare interests.

Filings with Uganda’s Registration Services Bureau reportedly identify Ssempereza as holding controlling interests in key target businesses. However, the purchase price and approval status of the broader transaction have not been publicly disclosed.

CIEL-backed C-Care expands across East Africa

Founded in 2008 as The Medical and Surgical Centre Limited, the private healthcare group is part of the CIEL Healthcare network, whose majority shareholder is Mauritius-based investment group CIEL.

The healthcare group operates facilities in Mauritius, including C-Care Darné, Wellkin, Grand-Baie and Tamarin, alongside its Ugandan hospitals, C-Care IHK and IMC. Its wider operations also include C-Lab medical laboratories and C-Pharma pharmacies.

The Roswell acquisition strengthens the private healthcare group’s position in Uganda’s private healthcare market, adding established specialist services as the group expands its regional footprint and invests in medical technology and operational capacity.
