Fourways Mall in Johannesburg is adding new retailers as it works to strengthen its position in South Africa’s crowded shopping centre market.

The Gauteng mall has continued to draw both established brands and smaller specialty stores, reflecting steady demand for large-format retail spaces in the city’s northern suburbs.

The latest openings come as retailers across South Africa adjust to slower consumer spending and rising operational costs.

In response, many shopping centres are focusing on convenience, food offerings, and experience-led visits to keep shoppers coming back.

For Fourways Mall, the strategy has been to broaden its tenant mix. Recent additions span food, lifestyle, and technology, signaling a deliberate push to offer more than traditional retail under one roof.

Food and beverage push gains pace

A key addition is Fournos Bakery, which is set to open a new branch at Fourways Mall in early June. The bakery is known for its breads, pastries, and café-style menu and already operates across several locations in Gauteng.

Its arrival adds to the mall’s growing list of dining options, a category that has become central to how South African malls compete for foot traffic.

Technology and lifestyle retail expands

The mall has also welcomed Nanodog, a store focused on laptops, smartphones, accessories, and gaming products.

The opening reflects continued demand for affordable tech and digital lifestyle goods among urban shoppers.

Retailers in this segment are increasingly targeting younger consumers who blend work, entertainment, and mobility in their purchasing habits.

Family dining footprint widens

In the casual dining segment, Panarottis has opened a new outlet at the mall, adding to its nationwide presence.

The restaurant offers pizza and pasta, along with a dedicated children’s play area designed for families.

The addition supports a broader trend among malls to create spaces where dining and leisure overlap, encouraging longer visits.

Taken together, the new tenants reinforce Fourways Mall’s role as a key retail hub in Johannesburg.

The centre’s evolving mix of food, technology, and family-friendly spaces reflects how South African malls are adapting to changing shopping habits and tighter consumer budgets.
