South African music trio Mi Casa is bringing its popular Friendship Cruise to Durban for the first time, expanding one of the country’s best-known music travel experiences.

The three-night voyage to Mozambique will sail aboard MSC Armonia from Feb. 5 to Feb. 8, 2027.

The move follows two sold-out editions in Cape Town and signals a new phase for the event. The cruise has become more than a music getaway.

It combines live performances, comedy, dining and themed experiences, drawing thousands of travelers from across South Africa.

Its arrival in Durban also comes at a time when more South Africans are embracing cruise holidays as an easy way to combine entertainment and travel in a single trip.

The announcement follows another strong season for MSC Cruises in South Africa, with growing interest from both local and international visitors.

Durban takes center stage

The 2027 edition will mark the first time Durban serves as the departure point for the Friendship Cruise.

Guests will enjoy performances across several stages, along with onboard entertainment and dining experiences.

Previous editions featured artists including Mi Casa, DJ Fresh, DJ Ready D, Rowlene and Tyrone Paulsen.

Comedians Mpho Popps, Yaaseen Barnes and Kagiso Mokgadi also entertained guests during the three-day voyage.

Earlier this year, thousands of passengers joined the 2026 Friendship Cruise aboard MSC Opera, further strengthening the event’s reputation among South African travelers.

Cruise demand continues to grow

The Durban announcement comes shortly after MSC Cruises wrapped up its 2025-26 South African season. More than 85,000 passengers boarded MSC Opera across 37 sailings.

Ross Volk, managing director of MSC Cruises South Africa, said travelers are increasingly looking for holidays that are simple to plan while still offering variety and memorable experiences.

“South African travelers continue to prioritize holidays that require effortless planning while still offering entertainment and discovery,” Volk said.

“Cruising remains a great holiday option, and we are pleased to see more South Africans embracing it.”

According to MSC Cruises, Gauteng remained the largest source market during the season.

Travelers from the United States, Germany, Brazil and the United Kingdom also joined local itineraries.

Benefits for the tourism sector

MSC Armonia is scheduled to arrive in South Africa for the first time on Nov. 27, 2026.

The vessel will operate cruises from both Durban and Cape Town during the 2026-27 season.

Volk said each cruise season creates opportunities beyond the ships themselves, supporting ports, transport providers, local suppliers and hospitality businesses.

“When guests cruise from South Africa, the benefits are felt both on board and in the communities where we operate,” he said.
