Luxury safari operator andBeyond is expanding its footprint in Kenya’s remote northern wilderness with the launch of Suyian Homestead, an exclusive five-suite private safari retreat set within the 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy.

The property, scheduled to open in June 2027, follows the debut of andBeyond Suyian Lodge in 2025 and introduces a more private style of safari experience designed around families, couples and small groups seeking space, comfort and a slower pace of travel.

Owned by the Suyian Conservancy Trust and managed under a Kenya Wildlife Service-approved conservation plan with oversight from Space for Giants, the conservancy remains the only tourism operation within the protected landscape. The approach focuses on low-impact tourism while preserving the area’s wildlife corridors and natural environment.

A private safari home experience

Unlike a traditional lodge stay, Suyian Homestead is designed to feel like a private residence in the bush. The property accommodates up to 11 guests across five suites, including a master suite and a triple configuration, supported by a dedicated team of 13 staff, two private guides and two six-seater safari vehicles.

“The idea was never to create another place to visit,” said Jane Braack, managing director of andBeyond East Africa Lodges. “Suyian Homestead expands our East African portfolio into a deeply personal expression of safari living — a home in the wild where guests can slow down, reconnect and spend meaningful time together.”

Life at the Homestead is intentionally flexible. Guests can decide how their days unfold, from early morning game drives to long meals, quiet afternoons by the pool or evenings spent around the dining table.

The 560-square-metre property features open living spaces, an expansive kitchen, shaded terraces, an infinity pool and outdoor dining areas positioned to capture views of the surrounding landscape. Located about 10 minutes from Suyian Lodge, the Homestead offers complete privacy while allowing guests access to selected lodge facilities and activities.

Architecture inspired by Kenya’s wild landscape

The architecture draws heavily from the landscape. Designed by Nicholas Plewman Architects with Michaelis Boyd, the Homestead takes inspiration from the area’s granite kopjes, with structures shaped around natural ridgelines and softened by indigenous vegetation.

Interiors by Fox Browne Creative combine stone, reclaimed timber, plaster and bronze with locally crafted furniture, Samburu artefacts, beadwork and antiques. Each suite has its own character while maintaining the feeling of one connected private home.

Safari experiences remain central to the stay, with private game drives and guided walking safaris tailored to each group. The conservancy is home to rare species including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, African wild dog and occasional sightings of black leopard.

Guests can also explore the landscape through camel excursions, horseback safaris, catch-and-release fishing, helicopter flights and wellness experiences.

Local ingredients shape luxury dining

Dining at Suyian Homestead reflects the property’s connection to its surroundings. Ingredients are sourced within a 50-kilometre radius from kitchen gardens, regional farms and local producers.

Sustainability has also shaped the development. About 80% of the property’s energy needs will come from solar power, supported by borehole water systems, rainwater harvesting and indigenous landscaping.

The name Suyian comes from the local Maa language word for African wild dog, an animal associated with cooperation and social bonds, qualities the property aims to reflect through shared experiences and private moments.

“Suyian Homestead is designed as a place people return to,” Braack said. “A home for shared rituals and time spent properly together.” Rates start at $10,200 per night.

Protecting Kenya’s Wildlife Corridor

Suyian Conservancy forms part of the wider Laikipia-Ewaso ecosystem, one of Africa’s most important wildlife areas. The conservancy supports more than 55 mammal species, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs and Grevy’s zebra, alongside more than 260 bird species.

The area also serves as a vital wildlife corridor connecting Laikipia with northern conservancies, allowing elephants and other species to move freely across the landscape.

Space for Giants, an international conservation organisation founded in 2011, oversees protection efforts across Africa, working to safeguard ecosystems and promote coexistence between wildlife and local communities.

andBeyond operates luxury lodges, camps and safari experiences across Africa, Asia, South America and Antarctica, combining hospitality with conservation-focused tourism designed to protect vulnerable ecosystems.
