NNPC plans Africa energy expansion

Africa’s growing need for reliable electricity is driving fresh investment across the energy sector, with governments and companies looking to expand infrastructure that can support economic growth and improve energy access.

Against that backdrop, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. says it is broadening its role beyond oil and gas production as it seeks to support energy development across Nigeria and the wider continent.

Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari said the company is working to connect investors, technology providers, policymakers and skilled professionals to help unlock new opportunities across the energy value chain.

His comments followed NNPC Ltd.’s participation at the 2026 Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week, where industry leaders discussed investment, energy security, natural gas development and reforms shaping Africa’s energy future.

NNPC expands its role

Ojulari said NNPC’s transformation is built on a wider vision than producing crude oil, adding that the company wants to create stronger links between capital, technology and energy projects.

“We no longer view NNPC Limited as merely an energy producer, but as an ecosystem builder, connecting capital, technology, policy, talent and markets to create lasting value for Nigeria and Africa,” he said in a statement released Monday.

He said that approach will guide the company’s partnerships as it works with governments, investors and businesses to support energy projects across Africa.

Investment remains a priority

The 2026 Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week brought together policymakers, regulators, international oil companies, indigenous producers, investors and technology firms to discuss investment opportunities and the future of Africa’s energy industry.

This year’s conference focused on attracting new capital, strengthening energy security and expanding natural gas development as Nigeria continues implementing reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act.

Ojulari also shared a video highlighting NNPC’s engagements during the conference, saying the event created opportunities to strengthen relationships across the industry.
