Zambia’s luxury tourism industry has received a boost with the opening of Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, a new high-end safari property located inside one of Africa’s largest protected wilderness areas.

The camp marks Anantara’s first tented safari camp in Africa and comes as the hospitality brand expands its presence across the continent’s growing luxury travel market.

The opening is also part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Set along the Kafue River in Zambia’s Kafue National Park, the 13-key camp aims to offer travelers a private wildlife experience while supporting conservation efforts focused on protecting the park’s natural environment.

The new lodge has been developed in partnership with ongoing conservation initiatives involving the Zambian government and African Parks, as Kafue continues efforts to restore its wildlife populations and strengthen its position as a major safari destination.

Luxury accommodation built around nature

Designed to blend into its surroundings, Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River features raised timber structures built more than 11 feet above the ground to allow wildlife movement beneath the property while limiting environmental impact.

Each accommodation offers more than seven metres of private river frontage, giving guests uninterrupted views of the Kafue River.

The camp includes three Horizon Terrace Suites, nine Pool and Bush Villas and a 400-square-metre Presidential Villa with private river access, spa facilities and panoramic views.

Guests can explore the wilderness through game drives, river safaris, guided walks, bush picnics and fishing experiences.

The area is home to elephants, hippos, predators, antelope and more than 500 bird species.

Sustainable safari experience in Zambia

Sustainability is a central part of the camp’s operations. The property runs entirely on solar power, uses on-site water purification systems and has removed single-use plastics.

Prefabricated construction methods also helped preserve existing trees around the site.

The camp offers a range of dining and wellness experiences, including Zambian-inspired cuisine at Luzuba Harvestry, cocktails and evening gatherings at Twalumba Bar & Lounge, and cooking classes through Spice Spoons.

Guests can also enjoy spa treatments, yoga and fitness sessions on a floating river platform.

Anantara expands African luxury travel presence

Anantara, part of Minor Hotels, operates luxury hotels and resorts across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

The brand has been increasing its presence in Africa as demand grows for exclusive safari experiences and nature-focused tourism.

Located within Kafue National Park, Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River can be reached through private charter flights from Lusaka or Livingstone to Chunga airstrip, followed by a short transfer to the camp.

The opening adds another luxury option to Zambia’s safari tourism sector while highlighting the country’s conservation and hospitality potential.
