Siemens has opened a new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt, strengthening its push to produce advanced energy equipment locally and support the country’s growing power and infrastructure needs.

The facility is expected to help expand domestic manufacturing, improve supply chains and support Egypt’s plans to modernize its electricity network.

The new plant will manufacture critical power technologies, including switchgear, substation control and monitoring systems, protection equipment and cybersecurity solutions for energy infrastructure.

Siemens said the factory will help bring production closer to customers while supporting faster delivery of equipment for major electricity and renewable energy projects.

The opening comes as Egypt increases investment in renewable energy and grid upgrades.

The country aims to raise renewable energy’s share of its electricity mix to 45% by 2028, creating demand for technologies that can support solar, wind and other clean energy projects.

The inauguration was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Siemens executives.

Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens, said local production would help strengthen Egypt’s industrial base and create more reliable supply chains.

“Localizing the production of critical energy technologies is key to building resilient infrastructure and competitive industries,” May said.

“This facility brings production closer to our customers, supports faster delivery and helps Egypt adopt advanced technologies more quickly.”

Supporting Egypt’s energy transition and industrial goals

Siemens said the factory supports Egypt’s National Industry Strategy 2024–2030, which identifies electrical and engineering industries as key areas for local production.

The investment follows a 2024 agreement with Egypt’s Industrial Development Authority to expand manufacturing of electrical products in the country.

The facility will also support local engineering and construction companies working on energy and infrastructure projects across Egypt and the wider African market.

By producing equipment locally, Siemens expects to strengthen domestic capabilities and reduce dependence on imported technologies.

Building skills through Siemens Power Academy

The new site includes the Siemens Power Academy, a training centre designed to prepare engineers and energy professionals to operate and maintain modern power systems.

The academy will provide practical training alongside factory operations, helping develop technical skills needed for the evolving energy sector.

The facility also features a Customer Experience Center where customers and partners can explore Siemens’ digital solutions, including digital twin and Internet of Things technologies designed to improve grid management and energy efficiency.

Siemens expands long partnership with Egypt

Siemens has operated in Egypt for 125 years, supporting projects across the energy, transportation and industrial sectors.

The company has contributed to electricity grid upgrades, Egypt’s high-speed rail network and the establishment of the Middle East’s first Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in the New Administrative Capital.
